Every day, every hour, every minute, devices are becoming connected. The
Internet of Things (or Iot) has gone from a buzzword floating through the
echoes of Silicon Valley to a tangible and quickly advancing movement in the
world of hardware. But, like a stone tossed into a pond, the effects of the
Internet of Things are quickly rippling outward, causing immense changes to
the environment surrounding it. And, as it turns out, the IoT is a rather big
stone and it's making a large splash. The IoT revolution is necessitating
enormous changes to companies who want to play in this brave new world - and
those companies are not few in number.
In fact, organizations across the globe are looking to leverage the power of
the IoT revolution for their products. Indeed, companies are looking at their
products both new and old, and how they add value in this new environment.

The next BriefingsDirect DevOps thought leadership discussion explores how
continuous processes around the development and deployment of applications
are both impacted by -- and a benefit to -- the Internet of Things (IoT)
trend.
To help better understand the relationship between DevOps and a plethora of
new end-devices and data please welcome Gary Gruver, consultant, author and a
former IT executive who has led many large-scale IT transformation projects,

Being heavily entrenched in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology markets, I often have the opportunity to
speak with customers, partners, and analysts about sensor-to-server
communication and what technology advances are on the horizon that will
benefit the industry. A few of the hot buttons right now are big data and
predictive analytics.
The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest
(in a big data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is
very appealing to many industrial customers. The ... (more)
Machine to Container (M2C) Teleports Existing Enterprise Apps to the Cloud
It's been a busy time for tech's ongoing infatuation with containers. Amazon
just announced EC2 Container Registry to simply container management. The new
Azure container service taps into Microsoft's partnership with Docker and
Mesosphere. You know when there's a standard for containers on the table
there's money on the table, too.
Everyone is talking containers because they reduce a ton of
development-related challenges and make it much easier to move across
production and testing environments and cloud... (more)
Three Hot Cloud Security Topics from @CloudExpo Silicon Valley
Two weeks ago (November 3-5), I attended the Cloud Expo Silicon Valley as a
speaker, where I presented on the security and privacy due diligence
requirements for cloud solutions.
Cloud security is a topical issue for every CIO, CISO, and technology buyer.
Decision-makers are always looking for insights on how to mitigate the
security risks of implementing and using cloud solutions. Based on the
presentation topics covered at the conference, as well as the general
discussions heard between sessions, I wanted to share ... (more)
Evolution from Big Data to Smart Data
As organizations realize the scope of the Internet of Things, gaining key
insights from Big Data, through the use of advanced analytics, becomes
crucial. However, IoT also creates the need for petabyte scale storage of
data from millions of devices. A new type of Storage is required which
seamlessly integrates robust data analytics with massive scale. These storage
systems will act as "smart systems" provide in-place analytics that speed
discovery and enable businesses to quickly derive meaningful and actionable
insights.

Nov. 17, 2015 06:45 PM EST Reads: 311 | By Peter Silva According to eMarketer.com, wearable usage will grow almost 60% in 2015 verses 2014. This year, almost 40 million U.S. adults will use wearables, including smartwatches and fitness trackers. And that’s only 16% of the penetrable market. They expect that number double in two years with close to 82 million adults wearing something connected by 2018. Almost two in five internet users by 2019.
