Chad Jones Shows IoT Game-Changers | @ThingsExpo @DeepInfoSci #IoT

Chad Jones, Chief Strategy Officer, will be a featured speaker at Internet of @ThingsExpo, taking place November 3 - 5, 2015

Deep Information Sciences, the company that reimagined MySQL for the New Economy in the cloud, today announced that Chad Jones, its Chief Strategy Officer, will be a featured speaker at Internet of @ThingsExpo, taking place November 3 - 5, 2015 in Santa Clara, CA.

In his session, "How Databases Can Stop Playing Catch-Up with the IoT" on November 4 at 8:30am, Jones will share tips on how to accelerate IoT initiatives and harness truly big IoT data by applying machine learning to the database core.

Jones will also be a featured panelist on the IoT Power Panel, "The World's Many IoTs: Which are the Most Important?" on November 3 at 5:20pm, which explores technology advancements that will have the biggest impact on the IoT industry.

"The IoT is upon us, but databases are holding us back from realizing its potential. Built on legacy 1970s science, today's databases can't ingest or process data fast enough. The databases that are struggling today will completely fall down tomorrow. Plus, all data in the IoT is relational, so IoT-based businesses have to run a relational database, as well as a NoSQL database for time-series data-and all of this must be tied together in the application. Managing these multiple platforms is a nightmare," Jones said. "However, there's a whole new category of databases called adaptive, which leverages machine learning, and it's changing the game. It enables existing databases to handle heavy ingest, transactions and analytics concurrently on the same data set, at great speed, while also handling the complex stream processing that the IoT increasingly requires. I'm looking forward to showing Internet of Things Expo attendees how they can use this technology to transform their existing databases from IoT inhibitors to IoT accelerators."

Cisco Keynote: The Internet of Everything: Seizing the Opportunities

Converging digital disruptions is creating a major sea change - Cisco calls this the Internet of Everything (IoE). IoE is the network connection of People, Process, Data and Things, fueled by Cloud, Mobile, Social, Analytics and Security, and it represents a $19Trillion value-at-stake over the next 10 years.

In her keynote at @ThingsExpo, Manjula Talreja, VP of Cisco Consulting Services, discussed IoE and the enormous opportunities it provides to public and private firms alike. She also shared what businesses must do to thrive in the IoE economy, citing examples from several industry sectors.

Microservices & IoT Power Panel at @ThingsExpo New York

In this Power Panel at @DevOpsSummit, moderated by Jason Bloomberg, president of Intellyx, panelists Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at Akana; Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks; and Troy Topnik, ActiveState's Technical Product Manager; and Otis Gospodnetić, founder of Sematext; peeled away the buzz and discuss the important architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we must architect and code accordingly. At the very least, you'll have no problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

Containers & Microservices Expo to Be Colocated with @ThingsExpo Silicon Valley, November 3-5, 2015 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, CA
SYS-CON Events announced on June 9, 2015 at the Javits Center that the 2nd "Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA, and the "Third Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place June 7-9, 2016, at Javits Center in New York City.

Containers and microservices have become topics of intense interest throughout the cloud developer and enterprise IT communities.

Microservices focuses on the business and technology of the software architecture design pattern, in which complex applications are composed of small, independent processes communicating with each other using language-agnostic APIs.

Containers are not being considered for the first time by the cloud community, but a current era of re-consideration has pushed them to the top of the cloud agenda.

Rather than just stuff an OS into a container, for example, developers and deployers should consider a spectrum of microservices and what they can do.

The security devil is always in the details of the attack: the ones you've endured, the ones you prepare yourself to fend off, and the ones that, you fear, will catch you completely unaware and defenseless. For manufacturers, the Internet of Things (IoT) represents a jumping-off point for innovation, jobs, and revenue creation. But to adequately seize the opportunity, manufacturers must design devices that are interconnected, can continually sense their environment and process huge amounts of data. As a first step, manufacturers must embrace a new product development ecosystem in order to support these products.
The promise of IoT is to have all things connected, feeding data and pushing content and solutions. This connectivity and the data from it has the potential to provide richer customer experiences, better business results, and much more informed consumers. So what happens when we take what is personal and enhance it with technology? Tile enables people to choose the things that matter most to them, and make those things connected. No other mass market IoT device does that at scale. In his sessio...

The cloud promises agility for companies wanting to utilize it for Big Data, but it can be challenging to understand all the new options and approaches – from IaaS and PaaS to newer services like HaaS and BDaaS. Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –...
Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
Most people haven’t heard the word, “gamification,” even though they probably, and perhaps unwittingly, participate in it every day. Gamification is “the process of adding games or game-like elements to something (as a task) so as to encourage participation.” Further, gamification is about bringing game mechanics – rules, constructs, processes, and methods – into the real world in an effort to engage people. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Robert Endo, owner and engagement manager of Intrepid D...

With all the incredible momentum behind the Internet of Things (IoT) industry, it is easy to forget that not a single CEO wakes up and wonders if “my IoT is broken.” What they wonder is if they are making the right decisions to do all they can to increase revenue, decrease costs, and improve customer experience – effectively the same challenges they have always had in growing their business.
