Magic: The Gathering - DevOps Deck
By Necco Ceresani
I can’t say I was entirely surprised when I saw a direct correlation between people who played Magic: The Gathering growing up and people in the DevOps space now. I loved Magic: The Gathering growing up and so did most of my co-workers. Building out decks, trading cards, and finding the perfect combinations to destroy my opponents were all what made the game worth while to us. If you are anything like me, you still flip through your old deck every now and again reminiscing on the good ol’ days of mountain dew and pizza bagels. But alas, we are adults, we work in IT and Magic: The Gathering has for many of us (not all) become a nostalgic memory fondly remembered.
What do we say to the god of death? Not Today! So I starting building out a DevOps Set and thought you might enjoy it. This was super fun and I encourage you to build your own DevOps Set cards (post them to @XebiaLabs on Twitter), I want to see all of your creativity. Enjoy.

By Liz McMillan Internet ready devices are becoming increasingly common, yet architecturally they often still act like point-to-point networks. Meanwhile, containers are making rapid deployments across networks painless, but knowing where and when to deploy them to meet market demand is just as critical.
In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, Matt Torrisi, Customer Success Operations at Dyn, will discuss what the public internet in the middle really looks like, and how operators can build their networks for better performance and security. Oct. 28, 2015 07:00 PM EDT Reads: 215 |

Recently, a solution has emerged that can help improve your data speed with data centers on the edge. These micro data center solutions can simplify the lives of many data center owners and operators because they are self-contained, secure computing environments, assembled in a factory and shipped in one enclosure which includes all the necessary power, cooling, security, and management tools. Many would argue that our critical infrastructure energy projects are only as reliable and secure as the technology serving them. Security will ultimately be the limiting factor on how much IoT is deployed. The traditional trade off of is either “easy to use” or “secure”, but not both is still relevant.
The Internet of Things has dramatically changed the way we analyze behavior and is now in the process of boosting the way we use energy. Smart technologies are bursting into the retail space with solutions speaking to brands on improved marketing efforts, customer engagement, and optimization of floor plans. But one question has risen out of the chatter: How can the Internet of Things (IoT) improve energy efficiency? Not simply for retailers, but for commercial environments and homes (smart or not) as well?
Right now it feels like the whole world is moving to digital at breakneck speed. Banks, insurance companies, retailers and large manufacturers are all looking at how they can digitally transform the organisation to keep up with customer demand, business expectations and compete globally. However, while digital transformation is becoming all-pervasive agreement on what digital transformation actually means, how to leverage its potential, and most importantly how to make a digital transformation project a success still remains elusive for many.
The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas.
In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists will discuss what things are the most important, which will have the most profound effect on the world, and what should we expect to see over the next couple of years.
In his General Session at 17th Cloud Expo, Bruce Swann, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Adobe Campaign, will explore the key ingredients of cross-channel marketing in a digital world.
Learn how the Adobe Marketing Cloud can help marketers embrace opportunities for personalized, relevant and real-time customer engagement across offline (direct mail, point of sale, call center) and digital (email, website, SMS, mobile apps, social networks, connected objects).
Most of the IoT Gateway scenarios involve collecting data from machines/processing and pushing data upstream to cloud for further analytics. The gateway hardware varies from Raspberry Pi to Industrial PCs. The document states the process of allowing deploying polyglot data pipelining software with the clear notion of supporting immutability.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Shashank Jain, a development architect for SAP Labs, will discuss the objective, which is to automate the IoT deployment process from development to production scenarios using Docker containers.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Ben Bromhead, CTO of Instaclustr, will walk you through the basics of building an IoT-based platform leveraging Cassandra, Spark and Kafka. This session is aimed at developers, admins and DevOps engineers who have to build, run and maintain high performance IoT platforms as well as data scientists/engineers who are sick of ETL and want to work with the most up to date information.
Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target – this makes the integration of these separate pipelines and the coordination of software updates for...
