Five Steps to DevOps Success: Avoiding the High Cost of Downtime
In a recent research, Analyst firm IDC found that the average cost of a critical application failure is $500,000 to $1 million per hour and the average total cost of unplanned application downtime is $1.25 billion to $2.5 billion per year for Fortune 1000 companies. In addition to the findings on the cost of the downtime, the research also highlighted best practices for development, testing, application support, infrastructure, and operations teams.
In his session at DevOps Summit, Anand Akela, Director of Product Marketing for APM at AppDynamics, will provide an overview of the research and share five steps to DevOps success leveraging an application performance management solution. He will also discuss how BizDevOps takes the concept of DevOps to a new level - by bringing the business context and insights to day to day DevOps activities.
Speaker Bio
Anand Akela is Director of Product Marketing for Application Performance Management (APM) at AppDynamics. Prior to his current role at CA, he was head of product marketing of APM at CA Technologies. Earlier he worked at Oracle and HP in various product marketing, product management, and engineering roles in the systems management, servers, data center energy efficiency, and enterprise software areas.
Anand has more than 20 years of experience in product marketing, product management, strategic planning and software development. He received his MBA from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University and a BS in Computer Science from Pune University in India.

The @DevOpsSummit at Cloud Expo - to be held November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California - will expand the DevOps community, enable a wide sharing of knowledge, and educate delegates and technology providers alike. Recent research has shown that DevOps dramatically reduces development time, the amount of enterprise IT professionals put out fires, and support time generally. Time spent on infrastructure development is significantly increased, and DevOps practitioners report more software releases and higher quality.

DevOps Summit Power Panel | Balancing the Three Pillars of DevOps
In this @DevOpsSummit Power Panel - moderated by Andi Mann (founder of @Sageable) - Shannon Williams, co-founder of Rancher Labs; Haseeb Budhani, co-founder and CEO of Soha; and Dalibor Siroky, Director and co-founder atPlutora; discussed how to balance these three pillars of DevOps, where to focus attention (and resources), where organizations might slip up with the wrong focus, how to manage change and risk in all three areas, what is possible and what is not, where to start, and especially how new structures, processes, and technologies can help drive a new DevOps culture.
Microservices & IoT Power Panel at @DevOpsSummit
Buzzword Alert: Microservices and IoT at a DevOps conference? What could possibly go wrong?
In this Power Panel at @DevOpsSummit, moderated by Jason Bloomberg, president of Intellyx, panelists Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at Akana; Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks; and Troy Topnik, ActiveState's Technical Product Manager; and Otis Gospodnetić, founder of Sematext; peeled away the buzz and discuss the important architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we must architect and code accordingly. At the very least, you'll have no problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

Containers & Microservices Expo To Be Colocated with @DevOpsSummit Silicon Valley, November 3-5, 2015 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, CA
SYS-CON Events announced on June 9, 2015 at the Javits Center that the 2nd "Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA, and the "Third Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place June 7-9, 2016, at Javits Center in New York City.
Containers and microservices have become topics of intense interest throughout the cloud developer and enterprise IT communities.
Microservices focuses on the business and technology of the software architecture design pattern, in which complex applications are composed of small, independent processes communicating with each other using language-agnostic APIs.
Containers are not being considered for the first time by the cloud community, but a current era of re-consideration has pushed them to the top of the cloud agenda.
Rather than just stuff an OS into a container, for example, developers and deployers should consider a spectrum of microservices and what they can do.
New York and Silicon Valley Sponsors and Exhibitors
During our last New York and Silicon Valley events, over 12,000 (audited) delegates registered and participated in the world's largest DevOps, Containers, and Microservices show, colocated with Cloud Expo. Our conference delegates met with over 150 of the world's leading technology pioneers that were among the sponsors and exhibitors, including:

By Liz McMillan Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target – this makes the integration of these separate pipelines and the coordination of software updates for...Nov. 1, 2015 04:00 PM EST Reads: 498 |

Millennials are increasingly using technology to assist in their product research and purchase decisions, forcing retailers to rethink and reshape their marketing strategies.
Millennials. The Millennial Generation. Generation Y. Whatever you want to call them, this progressive group has forced retailers to transform their view and strategy on in-store experiences. In other words, Millennials have arrived on the scene expecting a whole new style of shopping, challenging the retail industry to launch interactive techniques to capture and retain members of the younger generation.
Many would argue that our critical infrastructure energy projects are only as reliable and secure as the technology serving them. Security will ultimately be the limiting factor on how much IoT is deployed. The traditional trade off of is either “easy to use” or “secure”, but not both is still relevant.
Internet ready devices are becoming increasingly common, yet architecturally they often still act like point-to-point networks. Meanwhile, containers are making rapid deployments across networks painless, but knowing where and when to deploy them to meet market demand is just as critical.
In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, Matt Torrisi, Customer Success Operations at Dyn, will discuss what the public internet in the middle really looks like, and how operators can build their networks for better performance and security.
The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas.
In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists will discuss what things are the most important, which will have the most profound effect on the world, and what should we expect to see over the next couple of years.
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to evolve the way the world does business; however, understanding how to apply it to your company can be a mystery. Most people struggle with understanding the potential business uses or tend to get caught up in the technology, resulting in solutions that fail to meet even minimum business goals.
