The Internet of Security Things No, this isn't a tirade on the security of IoT. It's about story about change. Specifically, change and its implications on security. Change is constant. There's a million different axioms and proverbs about change, so it's really hard to choose just one to sum up how it impacts security. Inarguably it does. And right now there's a lot of change going on that's impacting security. "Micro" movement like microservices and microsegmentation are dramatically changing perimeters and breaking apart traditional "edge" security into distributed pockets of security, each architected specifically for the application or architecture it's protecting. The nearly ubiquitous use of HTTP as the de facto application transport protocol (it's the new TCP, you know) has led to an increasing rise in the elimination of network access and an increase focus ... Most everyone in Cloud IT circles has realized the power of containerization and that companies are adopting Docker containers at a remarkable rate. There are many good reasons for this, such as easily setting up dev/test scenarios (DevOps), and building out sophisticated, distributed computing clusters. But there are some deeper questions this talk will address from the Microsoft perspective. For example, what is the future of Windows in a containerized world? How will Windows and Linux work to...
In his General Session at 17th Cloud Expo, Bruce Swann, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Adobe Campaign, will explore the key ingredients of cross-channel marketing in a digital world. Learn how the Adobe Marketing Cloud can help marketers embrace opportunities for personalized, relevant and real-time customer engagement across offline (direct mail, point of sale, call center) and digital (email, website, SMS, mobile apps, social networks, connected objects).
Microservices are a very exciting architectural approach that many organizations are looking to as a way to accelerate innovation. Microservices promise to allow teams to move away from monolithic "ball of mud" systems, but the reality is that, in the vast majority of organizations, different projects and technologies will continue to be developed at different speeds. How to handle the dependencies between these disparate systems with different iteration cycles? Consider the "canoncial problem"...
Organizations are now three times more likely to adopt cloud-based provisioning of recovery sites. Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is a critical offering for cloud providers as it offers a non-intrusive solution for end users to effectively evaluate the cloud and become more amenable to using the cloud for further use cases. Cloud service provider’s DRaaS offerings must be rigorous enough to push the performance of the cloud but be a safe proposition for the enterprise. In his session a...
Web Real Time Communications (WebRTC) is changing the way we have traditionally communicated and collaborated. To be specific, the technology allows developers to embed voice, data, instant messaging, and video into web browsers, thereby providing easier and far efficient ways to communicate than Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services such as Skype, WhatsApp, and WebEx. WebRTC has come a long way since its inception in May 2011. Right from achieving interoperability between Chrome and Fir...

Culture is the most important ingredient of DevOps. The challenge for most organizations is defining and communicating a vision of beneficial DevOps culture for their organizations, and then facilitating the changes needed to achieve that. Often this comes down to an ability to provide true leadership. As a CIO, are your direct reports IT managers or are they IT leaders? The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership ab...
