Connected Teams, Connected Code, and the Connected Device: The Challenges of
IoT Software Delivery
Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set
of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues.
In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate
application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end
service, and the mobile application for the end user's controls. Each
component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and
practices, and deployed to a different stack/target - this makes the
integration of these separate pipelines and the coordination of software
updates for IoT more problematic.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Anders Wallgren, Chief Technology Officer of
Electric Cloud, will discuss how to coordinate the diverse moving parts that

Precision, Accuracy, and Debugging the Bimodal IT Model
IT is often cast in a dichotomy where things are either viewed as
traditional, stable, and safe or innovative, impermanent, and vulnerable.
There have been multiple attempts to organize these classifications in a
fashion that make IT budget and planning more predictable such as various
agile methodologies, DevOps, and the bimodal model.
What qualifies as success depends on the customer and producer involved in a
project. A survey conducted by Scott Ambler in 2013 suggests that being on
schedule is valued more than being on ... (more)
Overcoming the Challenges in Testing WebRTC Services
WebRTC sits at the intersection between VoIP and the Web. As such, it poses
some interesting challenges for those developing services on top of it, but
also for those who need to test and monitor these services.
In his session at WebRTC Summit, Tsahi Levent-Levi, co-founder of testRTC,
will review the various challenges posed by WebRTC when it comes to testing
and monitoring and on ways to overcome them.

SYS-CON Events announced today that DataClear Inc. will exhibit at the 17th
International Cloud Expo®, which will take place on November 3-5, 2015, at
the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
The DataClear ‘BlackBox' is the only solution that moves your PC, browsing
and data out of the United States and away from prying (and spying) eyes. Its
solution automatically builds you a clean, on-demand, virus free, new virtual
cloud based PC outside of the United States, and wipes it clean, destroying
it completely when you log out. If you wish to store your data, the solutio... (more)
Whether you are ready to start coding your first Node.js project, or if you
are a seasoned veteran and need finish up a new exciting project, odds are
you will need some functionality that has been written many times before by
others. One of the beauties of the internet is the ability to create and
share things. Node.js is a great language set in itself, but one key
selling point is the vast amount of code that is available for free download.
The Node Package Manager, also known as npm, is a software system that

@CloudExpo Stories By Pat Romanski Containers have changed the mind of IT in DevOps. They enable developers to work with dev, test, stage and production environments identically. Containers provide the right abstraction for microservices and many cloud platforms have integrated them into deployment pipelines. DevOps and containers together help companies achieve their business goals faster and more effectively.
In his session at DevOps Summit, Ruslan Synytsky, CEO and Co-founder of Jelastic, will review the current landscape of... Oct. 20, 2015 12:15 AM EDT Reads: 408 | By Elizabeth White Modern Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) fundamentally breaks most traditional security tools and approaches. The number of environments used by enterprises is exploding beyond traditional data centers and virtualization. Workloads are becoming elastic with shorter lifespans. Mergers and acquisitions are accelerating. All this makes traditional network and perimeter centric security less scalable, less effective and less efficient.
In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, Sami Laine, Principal Tech... Oct. 19, 2015 11:45 PM EDT Reads: 295 | By Carmen Gonzalez Containers have changed the mind of IT in DevOps. Oct. 19, 2015 06:00 PM EDT | By Liz McMillan We all know that data growth is exploding and storage budgets are shrinking.
Instead of showing you charts on about how much data there is, in her session at 17th Cloud Expo, Barbara Murphy, Vice President of Marketing at HGST, will show you how to capture all of your data in one place. After you have your data under control, you can then analyze it in one place, saving time and resources.
See how HGST has used these solutions to gain more value out of the information we have – and capitaliz... Oct. 19, 2015 05:00 PM EDT Reads: 108 | By Yeshim Deniz Overgrown applications have given way to modular applications, driven by the need to break larger problems into smaller problems. Similarly large monolithic development processes have been forced to be broken into smaller agile development cycles. Looking at trends in software development, microservices architectures meet the same demands.
Additional benefits of microservices architectures are compartmentalization and a limited impact of service failure versus a complete software malfunction.... Oct. 19, 2015 04:45 PM EDT Reads: 504 | By Elizabeth White With the exponential growth of network traffic slowing down data transmission, companies are looking for solutions. Recently, a solution has emerged that can help improve your data speed with data centers on the edge. These micro data center solutions can simplify the lives of many data center owners and operators because they are self-contained, secure computing environments, assembled in a factory and shipped in one enclosure which includes all the necessary power, cooling, security, and manag... Oct. 19, 2015 04:00 PM EDT | By Elizabeth White IT data is typically silo'd by the various tools in place. Unifying all the log, metric and event data in one analytics platform stops finger pointing and provides the end-to-end correlation. Logs, metrics and custom event data can be joined to tell the holistic story of your software and operations. For example, users can correlate code deploys to system performance to application error codes.

Oct. 19, 2015 03:00 PM EDT Reads: 121 | By Elizabeth White As operational failure becomes more acceptable to discuss within the software industry, the necessity for holding constructive, actionable postmortems increases. But most of what we know about postmortems from "pop culture" isn't actually relevant for the software systems we work on and within.
In his session at DevOps Summit, J. Oct. 19, 2015 02:00 PM EDT Reads: 264 | By Pat Romanski Containers are all the rage among developers and web companies, but they also represent two very substantial benefits to larger organizations. Oct. 19, 2015 01:00 PM EDT Reads: 500 | By Liz McMillan Microservices are a very exciting architectural approach that many organizations are looking to as a way to accelerate innovation. Microservices promise to allow teams to move away from monolithic "ball of mud" systems, but the reality is that, in the vast majority of organizations, different projects and technologies will continue to be developed at different speeds.
How to handle the dependencies between these disparate systems with different iteration cycles? Consider the "canoncial problem"... Oct. 19, 2015 12:30 PM EDT Reads: 306 | By Carmen Gonzalez As a CIO, are your direct reports IT managers or are they IT leaders? The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership ability. Many are unable to effectively engage and inspire, creating forward momentum in the direction of desired change. Renowned for its approach to leadership and emphasis on their people, organizations increasingly look to our military for insight into these challenges.
