Gaining IoT Insight with Real Time Predictive Analytics
As more and more data is generated from a variety of connected devices, the need to get insights from this data and predict future behavior and trends is increasingly essential for businesses. Real-time stream processing is needed in a variety of different industries such as Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Automobile, Finance, Online Retail, Smart Grids, and Healthcare. Azure Stream Analytics is a fully managed distributed stream computation service that provides low latency, scalable processing of streaming data in the cloud with an enterprise grade SLA. It features built-in integration with Azure Machine Learning, enabling you to invoke machine learning modules over streaming data to perform anomaly detection, classification, and other predictive analytics in real time.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Clemens Szyperski, Principal Group Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft, will detail how to build out an end-to-end stream processing solution with machine learning to address the modern business requirement of transforming data into insight, prediction, and action.
Speaker Bio
Clemens Szyperski joined Microsoft through its Research division in 1999 and has been in many roles and divisions since. Roles included Principal Architect and Principal Software Development Engineer. Today, he is a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager. He built and runs the team that delivered the Azure Stream Analytics service in April 2015. Before Stream Analytics, Clemens led the effort that yielded the "M" language and underpinning mashup runtime that is used by Power Query for Excel, Power BI, Azure Data Movement Service, and Azure Data Factory.

Cisco Keynote: The Internet of Everything: Seizing the Opportunities
Converging digital disruptions is creating a major sea change - Cisco calls this the Internet of Everything (IoE). IoE is the network connection of People, Process, Data and Things, fueled by Cloud, Mobile, Social, Analytics and Security, and it represents a $19Trillion value-at-stake over the next 10 years.
In her keynote at @ThingsExpo, Manjula Talreja, VP of Cisco Consulting Services, discussed IoE and the enormous opportunities it provides to public and private firms alike. She also shared what businesses must do to thrive in the IoE economy, citing examples from several industry sectors.
Microservices & IoT Power Panel at @ThingsExpo New York
In this Power Panel at @DevOpsSummit, moderated by Jason Bloomberg, president of Intellyx, panelists Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at Akana; Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks; and Troy Topnik, ActiveState's Technical Product Manager; and Otis Gospodnetić, founder of Sematext; peeled away the buzz and discuss the important architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we must architect and code accordingly. At the very least, you'll have no problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

Containers & Microservices Expo to Be Colocated with @ThingsExpo Silicon Valley, November 3-5, 2015 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, CA
SYS-CON Events announced on June 9, 2015 at the Javits Center that the 2nd "Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA, and the "Third Containers & Microservices Conference" will take place June 7-9, 2016, at Javits Center in New York City.
Containers and microservices have become topics of intense interest throughout the cloud developer and enterprise IT communities.
Microservices focuses on the business and technology of the software architecture design pattern, in which complex applications are composed of small, independent processes communicating with each other using language-agnostic APIs.
Containers are not being considered for the first time by the cloud community, but a current era of re-consideration has pushed them to the top of the cloud agenda.
Rather than just stuff an OS into a container, for example, developers and deployers should consider a spectrum of microservices and what they can do.

We talk about optimization a whole lot. There’s cloud workload optimization, there’s mobile optimization for website presentation and there’s every other type of optimization as we move through the ‘full stack’ of information technology from the base logic layer all the way up to the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
You get the picture, there’s a lot of optimization going on – but this is a natural thing, i.e., we spent the end part of the last century trying to get more processing speed, better form factors for devices and cheaper memory and storage.

Imagine buying the world's best shoes or for that matter any pair of shoes and paying zero dollars for them upfront. That would be crazy right? Well the Internet of Things can make this possible. With new technologies that can power everything we do and create new ways of doing them, vendors of consumable items can sell items based on a unique measurement rat...
If you’re in business, you have data. And if you’re like a lot of businesses, you have a lot of data. And it’s not only coming from your customers, it’s coming from other business units, partners, in-house applications, the cloud, hardware logs, etc. And that data could help you be better at your business, if only you had the right solution to access it in ways that deliver quantifiable value.
In recent years, we’ve watched mobile, cloud technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) enable increased connectivity for every network and every industry, ranging from connected cars to commercial vehicles and fleet management to smart cities to data centers. At MWC, it was clear that professionals in these areas are continuing to make strides in their fields. Below are a few of the major developments we noticed and look forward to hearing more as 2015 progresses.
Through this series I've considered the changes disruptive technology is having on traditional models, the routes businesses are taking to embrace transformation and the skills challenge they are facing as a result. It's clearly a complex and all-encompassing challenge for business leaders, but here I try to boil it down to the five key things we talk to senior leaders in business about when considering their change; from legacy, to next-generation, software-defined businesses:
DevOps Summit at Cloud Expo 2014 Silicon Valley was a terrific event for us. The Qubell booth was crowded on all three days. We ran demos every 30 minutes with folks lining up to get a seat and usually standing around. It was great to meet and talk to over 500 people! My keynote was well received and so was Stan's joint presentation with RingCentral on Devops for BigData. I also participated in two Power Panels – ‘Women in Technology’ and ‘Why DevOps Is Even More Important than You Think,’ both featuring brilliant colleagues and moderators and it was a blast to be a part of.

Where is your data right now? The explosion of cloud computing and consumer IT means that your data, as well as data about you, can be virtually anywhere.
Having your data and the data about you virtually everywhere is, in fact, key to the cloud computing business model. This means that traditional security concepts that focus in depth on infrastructure defense no longer apply. No one knows and understands this more than Dell's Brett Hansen, Executive Director, Dell Data Security Solutions.
In a recent blog article, I discussed the difference between cloud backup and cloud disaster recovery (or “DR”). In a nutshell, with cloud backup, you basically pay a third-party service provider a monthly fee to have them back up your firm’s data and store it in the cloud, so it can be restored on-demand at a later date. With cloud DR, you gain the option to restore your data/server images to an always-on offsite virtual cloud environment capable of running live production servers. Your recovery time dramatically shrinks with this option.
