Because more and more, company employees, independent contractors,
consultants and startup founders have the tools to work from anywhere,
there's now an app to help them find the perfect places to go.
It's called Cubefree, a free app that helps you find cafes with WiFi, power
outlets, parking and even a table to share. CubeFree shows a map view with
nearby cafes, along with user ratings and comments, as well as others who
have checked in.
This app perfectly complements the other tools the modern workforce uses to
work from anywhere: Virtual Desktops hosted in data centers, documents in
cloud storage, mobile work apps on tablets. To power these, all that's needed
is a quiet place to sit, WiFi and power.
For many that means working from home if they are out of the office, but if
you're on the road or just want to escape the house or office, Cubefree may
be the ticket... (more)

If Hardware is Commodity... Why Are We Still Spending so Much Time on It?
We really are moving in the direction of truly commoditized hardware. Some
uses will always have specific requirements that are not mainstream and thus
will require specialized builds; this is true in every industry. But
increasingly, who made your hardware and where they got their parts from is a
secondary issue.
Which makes one consider what really sells hardware these days. Years ago
when I was working for Network Computing, I reviewed a low-end blade server
company capable of cranking up blades at a fra... (more)
How Databases Can Stop Playing Catch-Up with the IoT
The IoT is upon us, but today's databases, built on 30-year-old math, require
multiple platforms to create a single solution. Data demands of the IoT

concurrently adapting to varied situations as they occur, with speed at
scale.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chad Jones, chief strategy officer at Deep
Information Sciences, will look differently at IoT data so enterprises can
fully leverage their IoT potential. He'll share tips on how to speed up

Build a Business Model That Can Withstand the Tide
By Lily Teplow
How should you really be looking at managed IT services as an MSP? In the sea
of service providers today, many businesses struggle with making the MSP
model work for them. If you want to ensure that your MSP business can
withstand the tide, you have to adapt to the constant ebb and flow of the
industry.

@CloudExpo Stories By Pat Romanski There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block - and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on... Aug. 10, 2015 12:45 PM EDT Reads: 281 | By Liz McMillan DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, rich desktop and tuned mobile experiences can now be created with a single codebase – without compromising functionality, performance or usability.

Heralded as the 'next big thing,' containers provide software owners a consistent way to package their software and dependencies while infrastructure operators benefit from a standard way to deploy and run them. Containers present new challenges for tracking usage due to their dynamic nature. They can also be deployed to bare metal, virtual machines and various cloud platforms. How do software owners track the usag...
