Gain Peace of Mind - Use Hybrid Cloud to Modernize Your Storage Strategy
Marc Farley, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Microsoft
Data generation and storage is rapidly accelerating and is expected to grow 44x in the next few years .Strict regulations and compliance combined with the need to mine this data to gain competitive advantage make it mandatory for enterprises to store this data for longer periods of time. To deal with this data explosion, enterprises are switching to a hybrid cloud storage model - a trend that is predicted to accelerate so fast that by 2020 over a third of the world's data is stored and passes through the cloud. Microsoft's hybrid cloud storage solution enables enterprise customers to integrate Microsoft Azure Storage with their data center.
This session will take you through the importance of the StorSimple solution to the hybrid cloud offering and discuss the building blocks you can use to solve data growth problems and cost constraints, as you consider moving your data storage to the public cloud. The final portion provides a future vision for hybrid cloud storage (HCS) with StorSimple and Azure.
Mobile Apps in the Enterprise: Harness the Power for Customers & Employees
Miranda Luna, Product Manager on the Windows Azure team at Microsoft
Mobile apps are becoming increasingly important in the enterprise. Traditional web apps cannot match the increased levels of engagement and retention achieved through a personalized and responsive experience on each user's favorite device. To build a cross-platform mobile app capable of delivering a truly personalized and responsive experience, however, you need to effectively utilize a cloud-connected app back end that is built to enhance security, scale and speed of development.
This session will cover the different aspects of robust mobile application strategy and the enabling technologies offered by Microsoft Azure. Miranda Luna will demonstrate how to use Microsoft Azure to implement mobile engagement strategy end to end, from net new apps to apps that need to leverage on-premises assets, to existing apps that could benefit from enhanced push notifications.
Learn How You Can Easily Extend Your Infrastructure with Microsoft Azure
Drew McDaniel, Principal Program Manager Lead - Windows Azure Division at Microsoft
As infrastructure needs grow so does the need to be able to deal with it in a quick and cost-efficient manner. With Azure, you can spin up new Windows Server and Linux virtual machines in minutes and adjust your usage as your needs change.
This session will explain how with Microsoft's pay-as-you-go approach, you only pay for what you use and there are never any penalties for changing your virtual machine configurations. It includes full support for Microsoft applications including SQL, SharePoint and even third-party software such as Oracle databases and WebLogic. Whether you are using IaaS for development and test or extending your production capacity to the cloud, Azure can help.

Machine Learning, which is a process to predict future patterns and incidents based on the models created out of past data, is definitely the most important part of the success of the Internet of Things in the enterprise and consumer space. The main reason is that without machine learning the entire backbone of the Internet of Things - event acquisition, event processing , event storage and event reporting - is merely a live display of events happening elsewhere and will not provide any value to its consumers. Think of a smart monitor in an oil well that monitors various climatic conditions an...

"To us DevOps is actually a movement that at the very center is about developers and IT operations teams collaborating in a framework that drives agility, drives the ideation to production readiness in a seamless manner," explained Monish Sharma, Director in PwC's consulting business, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @DevOpsSummit, held June 9-11, 2015, at the Javits Center in New York City.
Public Cloud IaaS started its life in the developer and startup communities and has grown rapidly to a $20B+ industry, but it still pales in comparison to how much is spent worldwide on IT: $3.6 trillion. In fact, there are 8.6 million data centers worldwide, the reality is many small and medium sized business have server closets and colocation footprints filled with servers and storage gear. While on-premise environment virtualization may have peaked at 75%, the Public Cloud has lagged in adoption as teams delay their cloud migrations or seek alternatives like the public cloud or await SaaS ...

It’s here. While we were sweating VM bloat, and throwing barbs at each other about VMs versus containers, it snuck up on us. While some were decrying that cloud would end the datacenter, while others laughed and said public cloud was a non-starter, and still more scoffed at hybrid cloud, it snuck up on us. …
Digital Transformation is the ultimate goal of cloud computing and related initiatives. The phrase is certainly not a precise one, and as subject to hand-waving and distortion as any high-falutin' terminology in the world of information technology.
Yet it is an excellent choice of words to describe what enterprise IT—and by extension, organizations in general—should be working to achieve.
Digital Transformation means:
handling all the data types being found and created in the organization
understanding that through mobility, data is being generated and analyzed on the edges of the e...
The path of an application from software development to bullet-proof operational deployment has rarely been a smooth one. This is true whether we're talking new applications or maintenance releases of established applications. There's no deep mystery to why this is. The fact is that the software development environment has always been a "moving target."
This week, I joined SOASTA as Senior Vice President of Performance Analytics. Given my background in cloud computing and distributed systems operations — you may have read my blogs on CNET or GigaOm — this may surprise you, but I want to explain why this is the perfect time to take on this opportunity with this team. In fact, that’s probably the best way to break this down. To explain why I’d leave the world of infrastructure and code for the world of data and analytics, let’s explore the timing, the opportunity, and the team that brought me to SOASTA.
Countless business models have spawned from the IaaS industry. Resell Web hosting, blogs, public cloud, and on and on. With the overwhelming amount of tools available to us, it's sometimes easy to overlook that many of them are just new skins of resources we've had for a long time.
In his General Session at 16th Cloud Expo, Phil Jackson, Lead Technology Evangelist at SoftLayer, broke down what we've got to work with and discuss the benefits and pitfalls to discover how we can best use them to design hosted applications.
As Lead Technology Evangelist, Phil Jackson helps SoftLayer customers an...
A panel of experts examines how cloud governance and enterprise architecture can prove essential in the Bimodal IT era, a period of increasingly fragmented IT.
Not only are IT organizations dealing with so-called shadow IT and myriad proof-of-concept affairs, there is now a strong rationale for fostering what Gartner calls Bimodal IT. There's a strong case to be made for exploiting the strengths of several different flavors of IT, except that -- at the same time -- businesses are asking IT in total to be faster, better, and cheaper.
With worldwide spending on cloud services and infrastructure growing by 23% in 2015 to $118B, it is clear that cloud services are here to stay. Yet, the rate of cloud adoption varies by companies and markets around the world. With thousands of outages and hijacks across the Internet every day, one reason for hesitation is the faith in quality Internet performance.
In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Michael Kane, Senior Manager at Dyn, explored how Internet performance affects your end-user’s experience and how you can make variations in the Internet work to your competitive advantage.
In 2013, Scandinavian research group SINTEF announced that 90 percent of all data ever created was generated during the two previous years. That time frame continues shrink as the rate of data creation increases exponentially. Mobile devices, computers, gaming systems and even your car all produce terabytes and terabytes of data. Under these conditions, every business needs to think seriously about their cloud options. There’s simply too much data for a company to effectively manage on outdated systems alone. We are quickly moving into the Post-PC era. While computers will remain the primary i...
