The native level support will offer a massive performance boost to frameworks having to fake all these features like Polymer and Angular. It will also encourage people who are not familiar with th...
Disruption in the communications ecosystem is creating a market opportunity for Cloud Real-Time Communications (RTC) platforms. We expect this market to represent a $4.5 billion opportunity by 2018. Cloud RTC Platforms are cloud services that enable mobile and web developers to integrate communications into their applications with just a few lines of code. Via REST APIs and SDKs Cloud RTC Platforms enable developers to easily integrate voice, messaging and video calling into mobile and web applications supporting more contextual conversations. These tools have the potential to change in how we...
Web Real Time Communications (WebRTC) is changing the way we have traditionally communicated and collaborated. To be specific, the technology allows developers to embed voice, data, instant messaging, and video into web browsers, thereby providing easier and far efficient ways to communicate than Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services such as Skype, WhatsApp, and WebEx.
WebRTC has come a long way since its inception in May 2011. Right from achieving interoperability between Chrome and Firefox browsers in 2013 to rolling out support for Android mobile, WebRTC has continued to garner more...
Developers working with WebRTC can now build native applications for Android, archive and playback live video communications within their application, and take advantage of a range of enterprise-grade quality-enhancing features, all thanks to four new developments from TokBox which launched today.
OpenTok Archiving & Playback, released today into beta, allows developers to simply add video stream recording for their live video chat applications, save the conversation into a single H.264/AAC MP4 file, and download or stream it through the player of their choice.
The Android SDK for WebRTC for...
Even though Apple and Microsoft haven’t commented on the new open source technology which delivers high quality audio and video capabilities to desktop and mobile browsers, major carriers such as AT&T; and Telefónica, leading infrastructure providers like Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson and new WebRTC application providers in likes of Teledini and NetDev are driving the technology forward.
Research analyst, Sabir Rafiq comments, “WebRTC brings many opportunities; ABI Research believes major trends will start to form within the enterprise market with WebRTC. Companies will be willing to implement t...
IBM recently boosted its support for its IoT Foundation Servic e by setting up a dedicated IoT business practice with funds totaling $3B. This will bring together clients, partners and stake holders to integrate dispersed sources, sensors, devices, business operations to glean real-time intelligence. This IoT ecosystem partnership will include The Weather Company that provides a strong bearing on anything related to weather on business.
The biggest, and possibly the most hated buzzwords to happen to IT in the last 10 years have been… Cloud, Internet of Things, and drumroll… Big Data (featuring its ugly stepchild the Data Lake). And over the past 10+ years, I’ve had the job of explaining these “things” to people (many of whom are not technical). Nobody likes new buzzwords – at least not the kind of people I like. But if they become understood, and validated, people start to understand why they’re legitimately needed. And this is the year, 2015, when Data Lake earns its keep.
The need to be connected to the ‘smarter world’ is ever increasing with the rise in the number of mobile devices. LTE is now a global reality for millions of subscribers and the age of the Internet of Things (IoT) is well and truly upon us. While this opens up a variety of opportunities for network operators, it also comes with a warning. With the vast increase in the number of connected devices, effective policy and traffic management capabilities have become key demands for carriers and, as such, network intelligence is more important than ever.
Who needs to go out for dinner, when you have a tireless master chef waiting at home to prepare a gourmet meal for you, any time, day or night? That's the premise behind a new invention from Moley Robotics, a tech company based in London. Moley unveiled their new "robochef" prototype on April 14, 2015 at the Hannover Messe technology fair in Germany.
Using hands produced by Shadow Robot Company, the robot chef is capable of producing meals from a collection of over 2,000 recipes, using natural motions learned from Tim Anderson, a human chef and winner of the BBC's MasterChef competition i...
At first glance, the idea of more connected things suggests simply that there will be more devices around and, as such, more products for manufacturers to make and sell. Of course that’s true, but increasingly the industry is realizing that there is actually more value in the services related to connected things than the things themselves.
As more things get connected, analyst projections forecast a global market of 50 billion connected devices by 2020, the range of service opportunities is expanding at an exponential rate. And as those services are presented online, they become available fo...
Articles about the IoT (Internet of Things) have moved from technical journals to our daily newspapers. They are a popular mainstream media topic today, but where are there actual business values found as a result of the IoT? In this article we will explore some of these topics.
In the rugged blue collar environment, vehicles, high valued equipment and other assets can be connected to the IoT to wirelessly report on their status, hours of operation, location, environment, maintenance and repair needs. This data can alert management when there is a problem, event or automatically create se...
5G is not just faster data and/or higher capacity only. It is much more than these obvious characteristics.
For one thing for IoT to succeed; the grand vision created for its debut on a universal scale, 5G is a must. More users; more devices interconnected at any instant of time. The 5G must address the issues arising out of interconnected devices in addition to only users. Also for IoT to succeed additional items like coverage of the serviced region (Can you hear me now!) and more efficient networks.
The data rates required by 5G are some 1000 times that provided by 4G to make things ha...
Thought experiment: let’s say your app gets a message from somewhere, perhaps from another app, but you don’t know from where. The message contains the number 47 but no other information. What should your app do with the message?
The answer: nothing. There’s no way for your app to make any sense out of a single datum with no context, no additional information or metadata about the datum itself.
Now, let’s scale up this thought experiment to a data lake. There are a few common definitions of data lake, but perhaps the most straightforward is a storage repository that holds a vast amount o...
