DevOps Summit at Cloud Expo 2014 Silicon Valley was a terrific event for us.
The Qubell booth was crowded on all three days.
We ran demos every 30 minutes with folks lining up to get a seat and usually standing around. It was great to meet and talk to over 500 people!

![]()
My keynote was well received and so was Stan's joint presentation with RingCentral on Devops for BigData.
I also participated in two Power Panels - ‘Women in Technology' and ‘Why DevOps Is Even More Important than You Think,' both featuring brilliant colleagues and moderators and it was a blast to be a part of.
The Grid Dynamics folks were showcasing their technology called Agile Software Factory that pre-packages many popular open source technologies and tools into a fully integrated technology suite for continuous delivery pipeline, from code changes to production updates.
Qubell is used by the Agile Software Factory as the "logistics" engine to create dev/test/prod environments on-demand, as required by the release pipeline, and automate updates, upgrades and auto-recycling of used up environments.

Here are the links to the content of the keynote, panels and sessions posted so far:

Companies that were not previously in the technology space now find themselves competing with Google and Amazon on the speed of innovation. As the innovation cycle accelerates, companies must embrace rapid and constant
change to both applications and their infrastructure, and find a way to deliver speed and agility of development without sacrificing reliability or efficiency of operations. In her Keynote at DevOps Summit Silicon Valley, Victoria Livschitz, CEO of Qubell, discussed how IT organizations can automate just-in-time assembly of application environments - each built for a specific purpose with the right infrastructure, components, service, data and tools - and deliver this automation to developers as a self-service. Victoria's keynote included remarks by Kira Makagon, EVP of Innovation at RingCentral, and Ratnakar Lavu, EVP of Digital Technology at Kohl's.

When a CIO or a CTO thinks of the applications they support it is almost always in terms of a "portfolio" When a research company named Gleanster poll executives about agile data management they discovered an interesting trend. Companies are reporting an increase in portfolio sizes with just over 36% of all respondents from large companies listing 75 or more applications in their portfolio.

Whenever people discuss DevOps they always speak of a "Wall of Confusion" between development and operations, and while there is certainly a barrier to understanding it's more than just a "wall." I see it more as a "canyon of distrust" or a "gulf of miscommunication." These are all just creative ways of identifying that there is misalignment between development-focused and operation-focused parts of the IT department. On a very simple level development tends to focus on revenue growth while op...

TiP is not something to be afraid of. The more you understand what may go wrong and how to take the proper precautions to prevent that, the more successful and efficient your overall app development process will be. Today’s post is about the major risks of Testing in Production, how to mitigate them and ensure you’re getting your best end-product to users.
Here’s a short anecdote: a QA team maintained a test environment separate from their production environment, but they had gone through great lengths to ensure it matched what was in production in every respect. It was filled with the same hardware, and all the software was identical down to the patch level. They had a strong process to ensure that any change made to one environment was mirrored in the other. Perhaps you can see where this story is going. Sure enough, the environments turned out ...
Remote work in ops is divisive. The perks of working from home, your local coffee shop, wherever, can be quite obvious to engineers and contributors. What are the advantages and disadvantages of remote work? What should you consider before you take the plunge into flexible hour...
I began my journey in the Application Performance Management (APM) space a little over two years ago. Transitioning from a security background, the biggest thing I was concerned about was picking up the technology quickly. Somewhere between JVMs, CLRs, JMX, IIS, and APIs I was a little overwhelmed.
The thing that caught my eye most in the early stages of learning about the APM space (outside of AppDynamics’ growth & the growing IT Ops market) was the term Business Transaction Monitoring.

Over the past twelve months we have seen a lot of companies across the big data spectrum emerge and while the language can be the same, there are clear product categories that have emerged...

It’s been only a handful of months since my fellow Forbes pundits Mike Kavis and Ben Kepes bemoaned cloud provider Rackspace’s troubles competing in the cutthroat public cloud marketplace. “Companies like Rackspace simply cannot compete,” opined Kavis in July 2014. Back in May, Kepes snarkily pointed out that “Rackspace has long been something of a bridesmaid,” as they unsuccessfully explored selling themselves to the highest bidder. Yet, just as reports of Mark Twain’s death were exaggerated – ...

Gordon Haff wrote an insightful column today about “skeuomorphic virtualizaton,” in other words the notion of thinking of virtual servers as having the same look and feel of the physical machines lying underneath. The upshot is that virtualization ends up just being a form of partioning; users view virtualized instances as no different from a single physical server.
Gordon urges the end of skeuomorphism's reign of terror (my words, not his) now that containers are (back) in the news.
So ...
