Boost Your Business IQ: How Apache Drill Provides Measurable Competitive
Benefits
An open source, schema-free SQL query engine-that certainly sounds
impressive. But what bottom-line benefits does Apache Drill bring to a
business?
The answer is straightforward: it enables a business to extract the most
value possible from data stored in Hadoop. Apache Drill does this by
breaking down many of the technical barriers that had restricted the ways
that analysts could work with data, and limited the intelligence that they
could glean from it.
With Apache Drill, data scientists are no longer constrained by the
limitations of last generation tools, and they are free to work with data in
a myriad of productive ways without draining IT resources.

Don’t Freak Out! Five Ways to Mitigate the Risks of TiP
If there is one thing we know for sure, it is that it's extremely difficult
to accurately reproduce a production environment for QA purposes. That's why
there is such a natural pull in the direction of Testing in Production (TiP),
in which testing is done within the live environment where real users are
actively engaged in the product.
There are many benefits to using the production system as a means to conduct
QA, but it can be stressful for an organization that isn't well-versed in the
practice. Oftentimes, the risks of Ti... (more)
I followed a meetup last night in Austin presented by Michael Cote of 451

past five years of cloud computing and Dave talked about some current

review of where we've been and where we are.
The global nature of the cloud reaches to most nations. In the modern era,
enterprise IT evolves at a similar pace worldwide, rather than in North
America and Western Europe first, as in days past. Depending on what

If you're part of the decision making process in how to get started with Big

Jan. 24, 2015 05:00 PM EST Reads: 969 | By Elizabeth White Thanks to Docker, it becomes very easy to leverage containers to build, ship, and run any Linux application on any kind of infrastructure. Docker is particularly helpful for microservice architectures because their successful implementation relies on a fast, efficient deployment mechanism – which is precisely one of the features of Docker.
Microservice architectures are therefore becoming more popular, and are increasingly seen as an interesting option even for smaller projects, instead of bein... Jan. 24, 2015 02:15 PM EST Reads: 2,683 | By Elizabeth White The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps become... Jan. 24, 2015 02:00 PM EST Reads: 1,959 | By Elizabeth White Hardware will never be more valuable than on the day it hits your loading dock. Each day new servers are not deployed to production the business is losing money. While Moore's Law is typically cited to explain the exponential density growth of chips, a critical consequence of this is rapid depreciation of servers. The hardware for clustered systems (e.g., Hadoop, OpenStack) tends to be significant capital expenses.
