According to the study, respondents have experienced anywhere from a 14 to 21 percent improvement in business in the form of increased numbers of customers, faster time-to-market and improved quality and performance of applications. US respondents have seen more improvements than the global average, for instance about 27 percent increased collaboration between departments, a 26 percent reduction in time spent fixing and maintaining applications and a 24-25 percent increase in the number of custo...| By Wayne Ariola | Article Rating: |

Top 10 Continuous Testing Resources in 2014
As more and more organizations embrace DevOps, lean, agile, and other methods to increase efficiency and accelerate software delivery, it's not surprising that 2014 brought lots of interest in Continuous Testing.
In case you missed them, here's Parasoft's list of the most popular Continuous Testing resources in 2014:
-
Continuous Testing eBook: Continuous Testing provides a real-time, objective assessment of the business risks associated with an application under development. Learn how in this 44-page eBook. -
[INFOGRAPHIC] Continuous Testing: This Infographic explains how Continuous Testing helps organizations accelerate the SDLC and release with confidence.
-
The Relationship Between Risk and Continuous Testing: Learn about the relationship between business risks and Continuous Testing, misperceptions about Continuous Testing, and how it helps both business and technical managers to make better trade-off decisions between release scope, time, and quality.
-
Manage the Business Risks of Application Development with Continuous Testing: Continuous testing provides a real-time, objective assessment of the business risks associated with an application under development. Ultimately, continuous testing can provide a quantitative assessment of risk and produce actionable tasks that will help mitigate these risks before progressing to the next stage of the software development lifecycle.
-
Forget ‘Continuous Integration'-the Buzzword is Now ‘Continuous Testing': Speeding up development won't mean quality will improve. How do we mitigate the negative effects of faster development?
-
Service Virtualization Enables Continuous Testing: Gain an understanding of how to eliminate constraints associated with static staged test environments and learn the efficiencies to be gained by integrating service virtualization into your existing process.
-
Rollback as a Quality Strategy: The ‘Pink Slime' of Continuous Delivery: Users may not appreciate being the guinea pigs in your continuous delivery testing process. Organizations leveraging their unconsenting and unaware users as QA are the equivalent of the meat industry using pink slime: It's an unpleasant business reality that they would prefer to keep hidden.
-
How to Avoid Continuously Delivering Faulty Software: As organizations continue to compress development and delivery lifecycles, the risk of regressions, integration errors, and other defects rises. But how can development teams integrate defect prevention strategies into their release cycles to ensure that they're not continuously delivering faulty software? Learn the key development testing processes to add to your Continuous Delivery system to reduce the risk of automating the release of software defects.
- Wayne Ariola on the Future of the Software Development Lifecycle: Parasoft's chief strategy officer discusses the future of the software development lifecycle, and why a complete reinvention of the SDLC is necessary.
-
Continuous Testing: What's the Business Value? Continuous Testing-when executed correctly-delivers three major business benefits. 1) Continuous tests drive a central system of decision for the SDLC, providing a real-time, quantifiable assessment of the application's health. 2) Continuous Testing establishes a safety net that allows software developers to bring new features to market faster. 3) Continuous Testing allows managers to make better trade-off decisions.

Companies that were not previously in the technology space now find themselves competing with Google and Amazon on the speed of innovation. As the innovation cycle accelerates, companies must embrace rapid and constant
change to both applications and their infrastructure, and find a way to deliver speed and agility of development without sacrificing reliability or efficiency of operations. In her Keynote at DevOps Summit Silicon Valley, Victoria Livschitz, CEO of Qubell, discussed how IT organizations can automate just-in-time assembly of application environments - each built for a specific purpose with the right infrastructure, components, service, data and tools - and deliver this automation to developers as a self-service. Victoria's keynote included remarks by Kira Makagon, EVP of Innovation at RingCentral, and Ratnakar Lavu, EVP of Digital Technology at Kohl's.

NoOps != No Operations
Download slides ▸ Here
Shipping daily, injecting faults, and keeping an extremely high availability "without Ops"? Understand why NoOps does not mean no operations. Agile development methodologies require evolved operations to be successful.

In his keynote at DevOps Summit Silicon Valley, David Tesar, Microsoft Technical Evangelist on Microsoft Azure and DevOps, discussed how Microsoft teams that have made huge progress with a DevOps transformation effectively utilize operations staff and how challenges were overcome. Regardless of whether you are a startup or a mature enterprise, whether you are using PaaS, Micro Services, or Containerization, walk away with some practical tips where Ops can make a significant impact working with the development teams. Operational teams and functions are increasingly more important as the industry delivers software at a blazing pace.
DevOps Is Even More Important Than You Think
The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps becomes essential for any ambitious enterprise today.

This Lunchtime Power Panel at DevOps Summit was moderated by Andi Mann, VP of Strategic Solutions at CA Technologies. Monish Sharma, VP of Customer Success at ElasticBox; Myles Steinhauser, Software Development Engineer at Blue Box; Victoria Livschitz, CEO of Qubell Inc.; and Mark Levy, Sr. Product Marketing Manager at Serena Software go beyond the basics in a discussion of why DevOps is not only important for transformation, but is mission-critical for enterprises that want to stay in business.
DevOps: Disruptive but Essential in a Cloud Expo® Universe
The widespread success of cloud computing is driving the DevOps revolution in enterprise IT. Now as never before, development teams must communicate and collaborate in a dynamic, 24/7/365 environment. There is no time to wait for long development cycles that produce software that is obsolete at launch. DevOps may be disruptive, but it is essential.
The DevOps Summit 2015 New York and Silicon Valley will be held:
DevOps Summit 2015 New York
(June 9-11, 2015, at the Javits Center, Manhattan)
DevOps Summit 2015 Silicon Valley
(November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center)
DevOps Summit, June 9-11, 2015, at the New York Javits Center in the heart of world's financial capital, will expand the DevOps community, enable a wide sharing of knowledge, and educate delegates and technology providers alike. Recent research has shown that DevOps dramatically reduces development time, the amount of time enterprise IT professionals spend putting out fires, and support time generally. Time spent on infrastructure development is significantly increased, and DevOps practitioners report more software releases and higher quality.
DevOps Summit content doubled in November from a single track last year in New York to two simultaneous tracks: "Dev" Developer Focus and "Ops" Operations Focus, as well as high impact keynotes attended by over 1,000 delegates.
We'll see you in New York City! See you in June!

While there are many ways to define DevOps, the goal of the concept is to be able to deliver IT solutions faster, leveraging several technology tools to add value for business. Cloud companies have demonstrated how they can manage massive pools of IT infrastructure, giving the developer a very flexible resource pool that they can leverage and IT is eager to do the same.

We’ve all heard or read about the reasons Agile is good from the business or project management perspectives, but when it really comes down to it, how much do those reasons actually move the needle for the people on the front lines who are trying to implement Agile?
As the Agile team becomes more efficient and successful, they begin to wonder how they can extend these benefits beyond the development team. I suspect that the success of Agile teams was one of the reasons for the birth of the DevOps movement, as development teams began to wonder about whether they could extend Agile towards c...
Redis has quickly become one of the top open source key value stores around. We at Stackify have been using Windows Azure's Managed Cache but have had a long history of intermittent problems with it. So we decided it was time to bite the bullet and give Redis a try, which Azure now supports and actually recommends it over their previous Managed Cache. We had one big problem though. Several important parts of our system relied on cache tags and Redis has no out-of-the-box support for tags.
How much risk do you have of someone stealing disks from your datacenter? Take the average life span of a hard drive. The enterprise class hard drive is designed to last a minimum of 5 years. During that 5 years a SAN or NAS filled with hard disks is expected to have at least 99.999 percent uptime or better. So if you take the same approach to securing data in your datacenter as you did with your laptop, what risk have you really mitigated? None. 99.999% of the time, as that disk is up and running in the datacenter you have provided ZERO additional protection for your data. Just because it say...
@ThingsExpo has been named the Top 5 Most Influential M2M Brand by Onalytica in the ‘Machine to Machine: Top 100 Influencers and Brands.' Onalytica analyzed the online debate on M2M by looking at over 85,000 tweets to provide the most influential individuals and brands that drive the discussion. According to Onalytica the "analysis showed a very engaged community with a lot of interactive tweets. The M2M discussion seems to be more fragmented and driven by some of the major brands present in the M2M space. This really allows some room for influential individuals to create more high value inter...
A few years ago, there was much ado about the “consumerization” of IT, and its impact on IT operations. As a CIO, “consumerization” was an issue, but in my experience the more profoundly impactful trend has really been the “IT-ification” of business. I’ve spent the last 20 years watching as information technologies creep into every aspect of business operations, from human resources to point-of-sale systems to healthcare delivery. While we’ve been moving in this direction for a while now, I believe that 2015 is the year when organizations will really begin to understand just how strategic a we...
According to a Greer Institute Workforce and Talent study, the 2020 workforce is both "the most educated and culturally diverse of any generation" and "notorious job-hoppers who dislike bureaucracy and distrust traditional hierarchies." Given this, it is crucial for leaders to understand how best to motivate and engage this 2020 workforce and win the war for top talent.
To prepare for the globally distributed, highly collaborative, always on-the-go 2020 workforce, leaders need to start building the kind of workplace that can harness all this new technology. One of the most impactful places ...

Yesterday we announced a new Community Pack for our friends at Fastly. I'm a big fan of Fastly. Not only do they have a compelling mission of changing the way people experience the Internet, but I like their simple assertion that slow is unacceptable.
The end of the year typically brings about a frenzy of news, reviews and forecasts about the next year, and rightfully so one of the top industry predictions for 2015 relate to the Cloud.
According to IDC, “the global cloud market, including private, public and hybrid clouds, will hit $118 billion in 2015 and crest at $200 billion by 2018. If the market shows that much growth next year, it will mean a 23.2% rise over the $95.8 billion market it reached in 2014.”
Industry analysts and pundits have speculated about the major growth areas of the cloud in 2015 and a majority of the predictions r...
Regardless of the business or industry you’re in, there’s no doubt that a successful year is at the forefront of your strategy. And at the helm driving that success is revenue. But not just any kind of revenue… we’re talking recurring revenue. When an average of 80% of a company’s future profits comes from 20% of its existing customers, it’s a telling sign of where your focus should be. And if you’re like nearly 50% of U.S. businesses today, you’ve either already adopted or are planning to adopt a recurring revenue model in your business. If you haven’t, there’s no better time than now to do s...
No trend is currently as hot as containers and particularly the popular container management system Docker. Although arguably just maturing, it has already reached almost mythical proportions of cloud hype. Docker would make virtualization superfluous, replace PaaS all together and thanks to unparalleled portability will put a final end to decades of platform and vendor lock-in. As a result there currently is no start-up or cloud provider who has not incorporated Docker prominently in its 2015 strategy.
Cloud computing adds flexibility to enterprise IT. When companies wish to take advantage of this, they are finding they need to turn to microservices instead of their traditional, monolithic architectures to accommodate frequent change.
Microservices can overcome the challnges presented by frequent change, “by splitting monoliths into multiple independent services, each with its own simple business logic,” according to Sergey Sverchkov, a Solutions Architect with Altoros. Doing so leads to another issue: “choosing either PaaS or IaaS for microservices is an open question, “ he says.

Cyber security is rapidly becoming a significant issue in the C-suite as well as the population at large. The results of Dell's Global Technology Adoption Index(GTAI) [1] show that security is a top concern for most of the 2000 global small and medium businesses surveyed. The outcomes further noted that such concerns create barriers to the adoption of critical technologies that drive value and growth: mobility, cloud and big data. In fact, many businesses are unprepared to address their potential security issues.
Despite valiant efforts of the Dutch ICT association, the local ministry of economic affairs and tireless encouragement from (now former) EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes, my home country, the Netherlands, has been struggling to gain cloud momentum. Not an uncommon characteristics in Europe but a sharp contrast to the US, but also to Dutch progress in the music scene.
The music industry – especially the dance segment – is in fact increasingly being dominated by Dutch names. After Tiesto, Armin van Buren and Ferry Korsten now tracks from Afrojack, Dash Berlin, Nicky Romero, Fedde le Grand, Mart...
Any CEO will tell you that marketing is an essential part of running a successful business. After all, without demand and lead generation there will be no sales; if the product isn't selling, all the brilliant innovative technology in the world won't make even the slightest difference and the company will eventually go under.
However, it won't be too much of a stretch to say that marketers are generally an underappreciated, often misunderstood species within technological organizations. I will claim that current analytics tools might allow marketers to "rebrand" themselves, and prove their ...
I saw more discussion on big data at CES 2015 this week, compared to previous years. Everyone talked about data as the central core of everything. The IoT (Internet of Things), NFC (near Field Communication) and M2M (Machine to Machine) communication are enabling pieces for many industries - security monitoring, asset and inventory tracking, healthcare, process control, building environment monitoring, vehicle tracking and telemetry, in-store customer engagement and digital signage. Big data is the big deal here.
The Big Data ecosystem includes - cloud computing, M2M/IoT, dumb terminal 2.0...
