Locking Down Data with @Vormetric’s Derek @Tumulak | @CloudExpo [#Cloud]

Derek Tumulak, Vice President of Product Management at Vormetric, talks to SYS-CON.tv at Cloud Expo Silicon Valley

"Vormetric is a data security company. We secure information at rest and our customers are some of the largest organizations in the world. The threats that are coming around today are either from state-sponsored activities and organized crime, and the intent is to steal information," explained Derek Tumulak, Vice President of Product Management at Vormetric, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at Cloud Expo, held Nov 4-6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

Cloud and Big Data present unique dilemmas: embracing the benefits of these new technologies while maintaining the security of your organization's assets. When an outside party owns, controls and manages your infrastructure and computational resources, how can you be assured that sensitive data remains private and secure? How do you best protect data in mixed use cloud and big data infrastructure sets? Can you still satisfy the full range of reporting, compliance and regulatory requirements?

In his session at 15th Cloud Expo, Derek Tumulak, Vice President of Product Management at Vormetric, discussed how to address data security in cloud and Big Data environments so that your organization isn't next week's data breach headline.

Speaker Bio:
Derek Tumulak (@Tumulak) joined the company in June 2012 because he felt Vormetric was the best place for him to leverage the product management and engineering expertise he'd amassed over 15 years in the information security industry.

As head of the product management organization, Tumulak is responsible for product direction and strategy, working closely with Vormetric's enterprise, government and cloud service provider customers to develop and deliver products that meet their data security needs in the face of a rapidly intensifying threat landscape and the corporate mandate to leverage cloud technologies.

Cloud, Big Data, and the 'Internet of Things'

Are you ready to put your data in the cloud?

What is the future of security in the cloud?

Does Docker quickly advance the development of an IoT application?

What are the implications of Moore's Law on Hadoop deployments?

CEO Power Panel in Silicon Valley Examined Agility, Cloud, Big Data, and the 'Internet of Things'

Things are being built upon cloud foundations to transform organizations. This CEO Power Panel at 15th Cloud Expo, moderated by Roger Strukhoff, Cloud Expo and @ThingsExpo conference chair, addressed the big issues involving these technologies and, more important, the results they will achieve. Rodney Rogers, chairman and CEO of Virtustream; Brendan O'Brien, co-founder of Aria Systems, Bart Copeland, president and CEO of ActiveState Software; Jim Cowie, chief scientist at Dyn; Dave Wagstaff, VP and chief architect at BSQUARE Corporation; Seth Proctor, CTO of NuoDB, Inc.; and Andris Gailitis, CIO of DEAC, discussed how important public, private, and hybrid cloud are to the enterprise. How does one define Big Data? And how is the IoT tying all this together?
