F5 Synthesis: Supersizing Application Access Services
#SDAS #IAM #IoT #Mobile The new requirements for app delivery include a focus
on hyperscaling access to applications.
A plurality (48%) of enterprises deliver between 1 and 500 applications to
consumers and employees. A somewhat surprising 21% deliver more than 1000
applications every day*.
Consider, now, the possible combinations (or is it permutations, I always mix
those two up) that can be formed along with the increasing number of
devices/connections per consumer and employee (predicted to hit 5 per
individual by 2017 by Cisco). Oh, and don't forget to consider the potential
impact from the Internet of Things. Things that need access to applications
and data controlled by corporate access policies.
As you've probably already surmised, traditional access control technology
isn't going to scale well in the face... (more)
It's time to condense all I've seen, heard, and learned about the IoT into a
fun, easy-to-remember guide. Without further ado, here are Five (5) Things
About the Internet of Things:
1. It's the end-state of Moore's Law.
It's easy enough to debunk the IoT as "nothing new."
After all, we've have embedded systems for years. We've had devices connected
to the Internet for decades; the very definition of a network means things
are connected to it.
But now that the invariable, self-fulfilling prophecy of Moore's Law has
resulted in a rise from about 10,000 transistors on a chip in 1980 t... (more)
It's a shame when the data analysis providers inside a company get the cold
shoulder from the business leaders because the data keeps proving the status
quo wrong, or contradicts the conventional corporate wisdom.
Fortunately for GSN Games in San Francisco, there's no such culture clash
there. "The real thing that's helped us get to the point we are is a culture
where everybody is open to being wrong -- and open to being proven wrong by
the data," says Portman Wills, Vice President of Data at GSN Games.
"One of the things we use data for is to challenge all of our assumptions

Containerization Is More than the New Virtualization
Docker offers a new, lightweight approach to application portability.
Applications are shipped using a common container format and managed with a
high-level API. Their processes run within isolated namespaces that abstract
the operating environment independently of the distribution, versions,
network setup, and other details of this environment.
This "containerization" has often been nicknamed "the new virtualization."
But containers are more than lightweight virtual machines. Beyond their
smaller footprint, shorter boot times... (more)
Latest Stories from Big Data Journal By Liz McMillan Over the last few years the healthcare ecosystem has revolved around innovations in Electronic Health Record (HER) based systems. This evolution has helped us achieve much desired interoperability. Now the focus is shifting to other equally important aspects – scalability and performance. While applying cloud computing environments to the EHR systems, a special consideration needs to be given to the cloud enablement of Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), i.e.... Some feel they can’t become healthier unless they are tracking their progress every step of the way. But as we begin to see through the hype, the wearable tech industry seems to be way behind in one important area – actually making us healthier.
The one thing that all fitness trackers have in common is st... It's the trend du jour, and for good reason as these innovative technologies have revolutionized an industry and made savvy companies a lot of money. But consider for a minute what's emerging with the Age of Context and the Internet of Things. Devices, interfaces, everyday objects are becoming endowed with computing smarts. This is creating an unprecedented focus on the Application Programming Interface (API) as developers seek to connect these devices and interfaces to create new supporting services and hybrids. I call this trend the move toward an API-first business model and strategy. They are using these new BI platforms to inject more intelligence into the applications business people use every day. As a result, data-driven decision-making is finally on track to become the rule, not the exception. Reads: 4,624 |
