Apple Ban Approaches

Apple only has 10 more days before an International Trade Commission's import ban on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2 and earlier takes effect on Monday, August 5. That is unless the White House vetoes it, something that hasn't happened since President Reagan over 25 years ago, or, in a pinch, like now, by the Court of Appeals. Two months ago the ITC found that the widgets violate a Samsung standards-essential encoding patent. Cloud computing is becoming one of the next industry buzz words. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc. Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years. Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing. Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. One of the most compelling promises of the cloud is that you can pull out a credit card and be working in minutes. No purchase orders to fill out, no equipment to wait for on the loading dock.
