Big Data start-ups are like ants at a church picnic. They're everywhere and
they're getting fed.
Guavus, which is focused on tier-one communications service providers and has
kept a low profile for the past seven years, has just raised another $9
million, which makes a whopping $87 million in funding altogether.
It just closed a $30 million D round in January.
The latest money comes from new investors Goldman Sachs and Asia-focused
TransLink Capital.
Guavus says it will use the funds to continue to expand its core products,
scale its operations, and pursue acquisitions to support demand for its
holistic Big Data analytics solutions.
It recently bought Canada-based mobile analytics start-up Neuralitic Systems.
Toshi Otani, managing director of TransLink Capital, said in a statement,

Google has reportedly offered to make minor changes to its web search engine
to resolve its antitrust troubles with the European Commission and avoid a
fine for allegedly manipulating its search results.
The details of the concessions package it's proposing are being kept a deep
dark secret.
The EC means to poll Google's rivals to see if they find the proposal
acceptable.

Asian suppliers told the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft has been sampling
components including a 1.5-inch display for a potential touch-enabled
smartwatch that would compete with a purported watch from Apple and others
coming from Google and Samsung as well as the Martian Passport Watch and the
Pebble wristwatch that sync with smartphones and vibrates to alert the wearer
to incoming messages and calls.
One executive said he met with Microsoft's R&D; people in Redmond but it's
unclear if the company will follow through.

The data center and telecom networks that clouds depend on for new
revenue-generating services cost more than they bring in according to Intel.
So the chipmaker is throwing its considerable weight behind Software-Defined
Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), which it says
will bring down the cost of network acquisition and management by separating
the hardware from the software.
Those capex and opex costs include reducing the size of data center and the

IBM reportedly wants to dump its x86 server business and, according to CRN,
Lenovo, the Chinese company that bought its PC operation in 2004 and now
wants to grow its server interests, is likely to buy it since it's the only
company in active acquisition negotiations.
Big Blue will supposedly only deal with companies it doesn't consider a
threat to any part of its business.
