AMD has hired Bernd Lienhard as general manager of its Client Business Unit, reporting to Lisa Su, general manager of its Global Business Units. Lienhard was most recently head of Freescale Semiconductor's Networking Processor Division, with global responsibility for product management, engineering and operations. He's supposed to lead AMD's client business as it expands its product lineup to include differentiated systems-on-chip targeted at high-growth mobility and traditional client markets like the upcoming Richland APU and its first true SoC APUs, codenamed Temash and Kabini, which will be the industry's first quad-core x86 SoCs. Both are scheduled to ship this half.
