Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server

Applies to: Forefront Protection for Exchange

Topic Last Modified: 2011-01-17

Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server (FPE) provides fast and effective protection against malware and spam by including multiple scanning engines from industry-leading security partners in a single solution. FPE provides customers with an easy-to-use administration console that includes customizable configuration settings, filtering options, monitoring features and reports, antispam protection, and integration with the Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) product. If you have installed FPE on multiple Exchange servers, such as in an enterprise, you can manage them with the Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC). Additionally, you can use Windows PowerShell, a command-line shell and task-based scripting technology that enables the automation of system administration tasks, to administer FPE.

Yes, download or print this guide
Yes! You can print, view or save a copy of this guide (or any custom set of topics from the TechNet Libarary that you wish) by building your own collection. As of March 2012, TechNet has been testing a feature called "Print Multiple Topics," which can be used only in the Lightweight view, not Classic or Script-free view. You can do more than just print the Library topics though, you can set up your own group of topics that you can then download too. To learn more, check out the Print/Export Multiple Topics – Help page at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/export/help/?returnurl=%2fen-us%2flibrary%2fcc482977.aspx. Printing or exporting requires you to sign in. Be sure to read all the fine print near the bottom of that help topic because the feature can work differently depending on your browser, cookie settings, and some other factors.

The feature doesn't seem to be available in Classic view or Script-free view of the TechNet Library, so be sure you have selected Lightweight view, which is a link you can click in the upper-right side of a TechNet page. It's above the feedback stars, to the right of the search box.

I noticed that you can add a lot of topics to your custom collection all at one time if you right-click a title in the left-side table of contents pane (again only in Lightweight view) and select Add This Set of Topics. However, if there are more than 100 subtopics under the node you select, that's too many and you'll have to choose a node with fewer topics.

Cheers, John
