Every technologist I know has been working to learn more about Hadoop. I bet
you are already somewhat familiar with some of the neat use-cases of this
technological framework.
But let me ask, wouldn’t you like to be able to express what Hadoop is in a
clear, succinct way? Would you like to be able to do that in ways that
non-technologists understand? That is a great goal to have and is actually
easily accomplished.
Just watch the following video of Cloudera CEO Mike Olson as he gives an
articulation of “Hadoop 101″.
Mike points out that in the old days if you had a data problem you would
write a big check for a massive piece of hardware and with any money left
over you would by some very expensive but powerful software from Oracle. That
box with software and data became your data temple and your analysis and

Microsoft and Barnes & Noble have struck a strategic deal that will end their
patent litigation and put the substantial Barnes & Noble e-book library
including college textbooks on Windows 8.
Microsoft is investing $300 million in a new Barnes & Noble subsidiary that
is called Newco for the moment and is valued at $1.7 billion.
Microsoft will have 17.6% of the unit, which may or may not be spun off.
Barnes & Noble will pay Microsoft an unsung royalty for a patent-settling
license that covers its Nook e-readers, which are based on a forked version
of Android.

If you work in information technology and you passed through the city of
London over the last week it would have been hard not to notice the InfoSec
IT security conference being held at the Earl's Court exhibition center.
Logically of course, certain themes and trends came out of this event, which
(at a macroeconomic level at least) may provide some insight for chief
information officers trying to analyse the state of their current security

IBM is ripping out a reported 67,000 internal Siebel seats that it's been
paying Oracle for - the same Oracle that competes with IBM at the top of its
voice - and replacing them with SugarCRM.
It's to say the least a boost for SugarCRM, which is doubtlessly thinking IPO
at some point, because not only is IBM reselling SugarCRM, it's eating the
dog food - a great reference as well as a way into the enterprise.
Sugar's chief attraction is reportedly the fact that unlike, say,
Salesforce.com, Sugar is agnostic about clouds. You can use its cloud or
