Wayin, the 18-month-old Scott McNealy start-up, has topped up its funding
with a $14 million B round lead by US Venture Partners with the participation
of TIBCO, the big Silicon Valley law firm Wilson Sonsini and a very locker
room crowd of private investors including TV producer Burt Sugarman, real
estate developer Michael Meldman, Gunthy-Renker co-CEO Ben Van de Bundt,
former Great Plains CEO and ex-Microsoft SVP Doug Burgum, sportscaster Jim
Gray and others.
Financing so far totals $20 million.
Wayin is a mobile and online service that generates "one-to-many"
conversations between individuals, brands, enterprises, schools and public
sector agencies with their fans, customers, communities and citizens.
Like Twitter and Facebook it's in search of more roughage for the Big Data

Oracle's copyright infringement case against SAP and TomorrowNow, its defunct
third-party maintenance arm acknowledged to have ripped off petabytes of
Oracle IP, will be retried starting June 18 the court ordered Tuesday. Oracle
is fighting to retain the unprecedented $1.3 billion damages award it got
from the jury the first time through. The judge subsequently decided Oracle
only proved actual damages of $272 million and cut the jury largesse. Oracle
protested and opted for a new trial. The date will change if one of Oracle's

Google Analytics (GA) is a free service provided by Google for collecting
statistics about website visitors.
The product is currently in use by around 57% of the 10,000 most popular
websites across the globe. GA can track visitors, sessions, traffic sources,
goal conversions, page performance metrics and more.
GA is implemented by including what is referred to as the Google Analytics
Tracking Code (GATC), and is a snippet of JavaScript code that the user adds
onto every page of website. This code collects visitor data and sends it to a
Google data collection server.

I met Peter Griess last night and heard him talk about his career. Even
though he still has plenty of years ahead of him, he has already worked for
NetApp, Yahoo, and now Facebook.
He was part of a nine-person startup that worked on some interesting social
email apps that eventually got acquired by Yahoo. Along his career he has
seen very different kinds of cultures in these various software engineering
departments, and as I was listening to his talk, I thought about the many
