Innovation in the Cloud

An exclusive Q&A with Scott Morrison, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect at Layer 7 Technologies

"The biggest new dimension of consumer cloud computing will be ubiquitous and seamless cloud storage for media, documents, etc.," stated Scott Morrison, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect at Layer 7 Technologies, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. This will, Morrison continued, make "them available to all personal devices simultaneously."

Cloud Computing Journal: How fast will the last remaining barriers to enterprise-wide cloud adoption melt away - are secure public clouds feasible, for example, or only private ones?

Scott Morrison: The next two to three years will see approaches to isolation in multi-tenant clouds that address the basic security concerns of the enterprise.

Cloud Computing Journal: What is the biggest new dimension of consumer cloud computing? Is it Cloud Telecoms, Cloud TV, Cloud Music, or what?

Morrison: The biggest new dimension of consumer cloud computing will be ubiquitous and seamless cloud storage for media, documents, etc., making them available to all personal devices simultaneously.

Cloud Computing Journal: How much of an influence on cloud adoption is the US Government's continuing support of cloud strategies for all government agencies?

Morrison: It's encouraging, but the enterprise is more concerned with successful case studies of large private sector organizations using the cloud.

Cloud Computing Journal: What impact does the arrival of Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, IBM, Cisco and the other giants have on the smaller cloud players?

Morrison: The large players serve to validate the model, but the small players continue to be the leaders in innovation in the cloud.

Cloud Computing Journal: What can Cloud Expo attendees expect to see from you in Santa Clara?

Morrison: At our booth (#903) we will be offering real case studies of cloud providers using Layer 7 technology to secure and manage APIs.
