Unstructured Big Data Storage in the Cloud at Cloud Expo Silicon Valley

Amplidata’s Tom Leyden to discuss how companies can build storage cloud infrastructures for large unstructured data sets

Cloud Expo Silicon Valley $500 Savings here!

Big Data has become very popular as what can probably best be described as "loosely structured large scale data," i.e., data sets of relatively small files. For example, log files for analytics purposes. These data sets can become so large that they cannot be stored with traditional technologies (such as relational databases).

The exponential growth in unstructured data sets with movies, pictures and documents has created a similar situation for large files: companies are aggregating data beyond what can be stored with traditional storage systems (e.g., file-based storage systems). Through scale-out object storage systems, companies can build storage cloud infrastructures for large unstructured data sets.

In his session at the 9th International Cloud Expo, Tom Leyden, Director of Business Development and Worldwide Marketing at Amplidata, will also discuss how much information can be found by analyzing those sets of large unstructured data.

Cloud Expo Breaking News
“The definition of cloud and cloud services continues to evolve,” observed Robert Crespi, VP, CIO at Cervalis, in this exclusive Q&A; with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. “As such it is difficult to predict the growth,” Crespi continued, “we see more and more customers migrating to a cloud model with virtualization as it core.” Cloud Computing Journal: Agree or disagree? – "While the IT savings aspect is compelling, the strongest benefit of cloud computing is how it enhances business ...
Capacity management may not be dead yet, but with the adoption of private clouds it’s barely recognizable. IT organizations are radically changing how they plan and manage infrastructure to cope with the complexity of these large-scale shared environments and prevent the over-provisioning that results from old school planning approaches. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Andrew Hillier, Co-Founder and CTO at CiRBA, will outline best practices for gaining control over dynamic...

While storage area networks (SANs) have become the ubiquitous deployment model for interconnecting data storage systems via high-speed networks such as Fibre Channel or iSCSI, IT administrators are now rethinking the traditional SAN in light of new technologies and economic models enabled by the cloud. Cloud storage and enterprise-class cloud storage gateways have recently begun to overcome these limitations using a pay-as-you-go cost model, unlimited capacity, multi-site scalability and even ...

Many organizations have embraced, or are considering, the benefits of cloud computing – speed, flexibility, increased expertise, shared workload, reduced costs, etc. The benefits are many – but so are the risks. What are the threats to cloud security? Which parties assume responsibility for securing the environment? What about the data? Which type of cloud deployment offers superior security benefits? In her session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Kristin Lovejoy, Vice President of Infor...
The proliferation of device connectivity is redefining the functionality requirements and capabilities of many embedded systems as more and more of these devices look to leverage the “Cloud.” While many commercial software and hardware component vendors have begun to realign their value propositions to satisfy growing demand, commercial-off-the-shelf products (COTS) alone cannot meet every OEM’s needs. As a result, the Embedded Cloud has injected a new level of uncertainty and a new competitive ...

What are the potential legal protections and solutions from the point of view of providers, suppliers and consumers? In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Paul Rubell, a Partner at Meltzer Lippe, will discuss the federal mandates that will encourage “meaningful use” of EHR technology by 2015, and what those mandates will require executives to understand about cloud comput...
2011 was a year of rapid adoption for public and private cloud services. Instant and on-demand server provisioning was the driving force behind the massive growth. On top, cloud server templates and script automation simplified application installation for simple and pre-defined application stacks, but have not targeted more complex enterprise application environments. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, John Yung, CEO of Appcara, will discuss how 2012 will be the year for app...
