Hewlett-Packard said Thursday that its Palm-derived webOS TouchPad will go on sale in the US July 1 and a few days later in the UK, Ireland, France and Germany.
Canada will have to wait until mid-July and Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore won't see it until sometime later this year.
Initially there'll only be a Wi-Fi version. AT&T's supposed to introduce a connected version later this summer.
Pricing copies iPad and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 $499.99 for 16 GB, $599.99 for 32 GB.
Apple fanbois figure it's too little, too late. Android tablet aren't making the grade against iPad and Wall Street is whispering about the possibility of over-building.
HP will be taking pre-orders in North America and Europe beginning June 19. Besides HP's online store, the dingus will move through Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, OfficeMax, Amazon.com, Fry's and Microcenter. They'll also be peddling a Touchstone Charging Dock, a wireless keyboard and a case.
