Best Buy Set to Tackle Apple’s iCloud with Cloud Music Service

Best Buy jumps on cloud-based, digital music trend.

Joining the spate of companies that have rushed to offer cloud-based music storage and streaming services, Electronics retailer, Best Buy Co., has also announced that it is bringing its online music platform, which is already operational in the UK, to the U.S. The My Music Anywhere platform as it is known in the U.K. allows users to stream content purchased via computer, mobile phone or tablet, sidestepping the cumbersome computer storage and file transfer process.

The offering echoes recent ideas advanced by Amazon with its Cloud Player and by Apple, which revealed the iCloud platform that promises to sync up personal data and music across desktops and mobile devices along with iTunes integration. Another one from Google, the Google Music Beta service, is still in the works.

The U.S. Music Cloud service is powered by Beverly Hills, California- based Catch Media Inc. and is accessible by mobile devices including Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry and those operating on the Android platform.
