Many enterprises are struggling to develop a cloud computing strategy. Cloud
computing seems like it ought to be a game-changing technology, but so often
when the initial proof of concept is finished, it appears to have simply
rearranged the deckchairs within a titanic IT department. The problem is we
have been trained through decades of IT implementation to focus on certain
metrics. Unfortunately, those are the wrong ones. Consequently, when it comes
to cloud computing, most of us are playing "small-ball."
To graduate to the big leagues, we need to step back and re-evaluate both the
goals and the technologies themselves to find the big win. In his general
session at Cloud Expo New York, Dave Roberts, VP of Strategy and Marketing at
ServiceMesh, provided some perspective on how leading enterprise cloud
adopters are swingi... (more)

With substantial growth in cloud services, over 2.5 billion connected users,
more than 1000 exabytes of Internet traffic and 15 billion devices accessing
cloud services by 2015, transforming datacenters to support this growth can
be complex. To address the challenges facing IT and realize significant
benefits of cloud computing, it's essential that cloud solutions are open,
interoperable and built on standards.
In his general session at Cloud Expo New York, Jason Waxman, Intel Data
Center Group GM, High Density Computing, describe a mu... (more)

I/O is among the biggest barriers to consolidating virtual environments. As
the number of virtual machine workloads increase, RAM requirements quickly
exceed the amount of RAM that servers can hold. In addition, in-server
storage capacity constraints force applications to traverse storage networks
for data, drastically limiting the efficacy of even high-performance SANs.
Server-deployed NAND flash makes terabytes of high-performance, non-volatile
memory available within each server to eliminate I/O bottlenecks. As a memory
extension or ... (more)
