McAfee Co., Ltd., the Japanese subsidiary of McAfee, on Thursday announced that Sharp Corporation (Headquarters: Abeno-ku, Osaka; President: Mikio Katayama) will offer a 30-day limited trial version of McAfee VirusScan Mobile for Android pre-installed on the two “GALAPAGOS” media tablet models. VirusScan Mobile for Android software is designed to help consumers protect their mobile smartphone or tablet from viruses and malware to ensure that users enjoy a hassle-free mobile experience. It will be available to “GALAPAGOS” users starting July 25.
“We’re pleased to partner with Sharp in bringing McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology to GALAPAGOS media tablet users,” said Todd Gebhart, executive vice president of consumer, small business and mobile. “With McAfee VirusScan Mobile for Android, Sharp users can protect their tablet by scanning and cleaning files, emails, installer packages, downloads, and attachments. This security technology will help Sharp users to access their devices’ functions without interruption and to ensure their critical communication features are always working.
Once started, McAfee VirusScan Mobile automatically scans files, emails, downloaded content, text and multimedia messages, and attached files. It then removes any malware that is detected. VirusScan Mobile protects Android devices from viruses, spyware, worms, Trojan horses, and botnets while safeguarding personal information and ensuring that critical communication functions work normally for users on the go. Featuring automatic protection updates, the solution secures the device as soon as new threats are found.
Sharp seeks to deliver a new user experience through its cloud-based media business “GALAPAGOS”. This business provides optimized media tablet devices and a new network service. The two devices on which McAfee VirusScan Mobile will be pre-installed are the paperback book-size mobile type, which has a 5.5-inch LCD, and the home-use type, which boasts a 10.8-inch high-definition LCD and offers two-page magazine spreads.
