Je parle souvent dans ce blog de «révolution» à propos du Cloud et en
particulier de la R2I, Révolution Industrielle informatique. Il m’est donc
venu l’idée de proposer une devise pour cette révolution du Cloud :
Universalité, égalité, compétitivité
Pourquoi ? Les solutions Cloud Computing, et en particulier les applications
en mode SaaS, universelles, sont aujourd’hui un facteur clef
d’égalisation des chances entre toutes les entreprises qui peuvent
augmenter leur compétitivité en s’appuyant sur cette nouvelle
génération d’informatique.

Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt has been delegated to go and testify
before the US Senate's antitrust subcommittee in September.
Google has been reluctant to send any of its managers but then the Senate
reminded Google that it had subpoena powers.
Google had offered its chief legal officer David Drummond but the
subcommittee wanted either Schmidt or new CEO Larry Page.
The Federal Trade Commission started a formal antitrust investigation of
Google last month and the European Commission is already doing the same

As far as the courts are concerned the historic auction-winning
Apple-Rockstar Bidco cash bid of $4.5 billion for Nortel's 6,000 patents and
patent applications can close.
In a joint video-conferenced hearing Monday the bankruptcy court in Delaware
and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto that were supposed to
review the controversial acquisition waved it through.
Proving himself a master of understatement one Nortel lawyer reportedly told
bankruptcy court judge Kevin Gross, "I don't believe a dollar was left on the
table."

Judge William Alsup, who's hearing the Oracle v Google suit over Android, has
given the pair a terse one-paragraph order ahead of the Daubert hearing
Google asked for next week to limit possible damages.
"It appears," he said, that it's "possible that early on Google recognized
that it would infringe patents protecting at least part of Java, entered into
negotiations with Sun to obtain a license for use in Android, then abandoned
the negotiations as too expensive, and pushed home with Android without any
license at all."

The trial of Oracle's case against Google, the one that demands Google pay it
$2.6 billion for allegedly treading on its patents and copyrights, could be
stayed while the US Patent and Trademark Office re-examines the seven
patents-in-suit. The trial is supposed to start October 31.
Patent watcher Florian Mueller says the judge in the case issued an order
Monday indicating that there's gonna be a stay, the only issue is whether
it'll be a partial stay or not.

We don't do press releases unless we have to; we tweet stories to our roughly 12,000 followers in 8 channels. The news gets amplified to hundreds of thousands instantly.
Even during Cloud Expo, we reach more people by Twitter than the announcements we make through loudspeakers in the convention centers.
I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."

It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc.
Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon. The worldwide CIO survey was conducted by Gartner EXP from September to December 2010 and represents CIO budget plans reported at that time. According to the results, CIOs expect to adopt new cloud services much faster than originally expected. Currently, 3% of CIOs have the majority of IT running in the cloud or on SaaS technologies, but over the next four years CIOs expect this number to increase to 43%.
