Citrix is moving to commercialize the open source OpenStack project that it's
been smitten with since Rackspace and NASA dreamed it up last summer.
The company has embarked on what it calls Project Olympus, which is supposed
to apotheosize the community effort into an OpenStack-based
Infrastructure-as-a-Service contender that competes with, oh, Eucalyptus
Systems and VMware.
Olympus is supposed to consist of a "Citrix-certified" version of OpenStack
and a "cloud-optimized" version of Citrix XenServer. And both are supposed to
further the fortunes of Xen virtualization although Olympus is also supposed
to support Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere. (No mention of KVM.)
Citrix is going to push Olympus as the answer to both public and private
clouds.

Start-ups don't generally come out of deep stealth mode sporting a strategic
reseller alliance. So let's call MapR's arrival a breech birth indicating it
might have legs.
MapR Technologies, whose name betrays the fact that it's in the Hadoop
business, is the proprietary Hadoop distribution in EMC's recently unveiled
Greenplum HD Enterprise Edition.
Greenplum co-founder Scott Yara said in a statement that "EMC is focused on
delivering the best-in-class solutions for Big Data. We evaluated the various
Hadoop software offerings and believe that MapR is the clear enterprise-class

The OSGi framework is a popular platform for developing multifunctional
desktop systems, enterprise systems and complex applications.
OSGi uses a modular approach where each bundle is regarded as a relatively
independent and separate unit. The framework controls maintenance-based tasks
such as managing interactions between bundles, resolving dependencies, and
managing lifecycles. Therefore, programmers can reallocate their time with
less routine work and concentrate solely on solution development.

A couple of months have passed since the release of OpenNebula 2.2 (Cat’s
Eye) and the OpenNebula team has been quite active since then. The next
release of OpenNebula is getting in shape fast and a significant amount of
new features are already in its repository. The main new features announced
by the developers are:
Database refactoring. The new DB backend of OpenNebula features a schema free
(document-oriented) implementation of the data model on top of a SQL DB.

technology (IT) professionals. But why? Internet hosted applications and
services certainly aren't a new concept. In fact, application service
providers began delivering functionality via the Web more than a decade ago,
and even Software-as-a-Service, considered a revolutionary way to deliver
software just a few years ago, is now commonplace.

I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."

It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc.
Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon. The worldwide CIO survey was conducted by Gartner EXP from September to December 2010 and represents CIO budget plans reported at that time. According to the results, CIOs expect to adopt new cloud services much faster than originally expected. Currently, 3% of CIOs have the majority of IT running in the cloud or on SaaS technologies, but over the next four years CIOs expect this number to increase to 43%.
