NEW YORK, April 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon has successfully completed the annual SAS 70 Type II examination of its data centers, which support the company's broad portfolio of cloud-based computing services and underpin its "everything-as-a-service" cloud-based information-technology delivery model.
In addition, the company's flagship cloud offering, Computing as a Service, also successfully completed the annual SAS 70 Type II examination.
SAS 70 is a widely recognized auditing standard performed by a third-party accounting firm. It is conducted in compliance with the standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for examining specific areas such as: organizational structure, governance and administration; access to facilities; logical access to systems; network services; and operational processes and environmental safeguards. The examination demonstrates that Verizon has the controls and processes in place to manage and monitor the company's data centers and critical infrastructure for its enterprise clients around the globe.
"Verizon understands that enterprises require a business-class cloud to truly harness the power of cloud computing," said Kerry Bailey, Verizon group president, cloud strategy and services. "Our successful completion of industry-recognized examinations such as SAS 70 Type II are one more way in which we are demonstrating our ability to deliver on the promise of a true enterprise-class cloud - one that's architected to securely and reliably deliver critical business applications."
This is the second consecutive year that Verizon's cloud computing data centers and its Computing as a Service (CaaS) offering delivered from the company's facilities in Maryland and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, have successfully completed an annual SAS 70 Type II examination.
