Google's outgoing CEO Eric Schmidt, who's supposed to step down next month in
favor of Google founder Larry Page, may get to scratch his well-known
political itch. Bloomberg says the Obama White House may consider him to
replace Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who will be nominated to go to China
as US ambassador. Bloomberg cited "a person familiar with the process" as its
source and said Pfizer CEO Jeffrey Kindler could also be under consideration.
Schmidt will become executive chairman of Google in April. He was at that
dinner at John Doerr's house last month with Barack Obama and Steve Jobs.

In the run-up to the next Cloud Expo, 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010)
being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time
to give my earlier list a complete overhaul.
Here, accordingly, is an expanded list of the most active players in the
Cloud Ecosystem.
I have increased it from the 'mere' 150 I identified back in January of this
year, to 250, testimony – as if any were needed! – to the fierce and

We don't do press releases unless we have to; we tweet stories to our roughly 12,000 followers in 8 channels. The news gets amplified to hundreds of thousands instantly.
Even during Cloud Expo, we reach more people by Twitter than the announcements we make through loudspeakers in the convention centers.
I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."

CloudCamp @ Cloud Expo is aimed at anyone working with, or interested in working with, cloud technologies.

Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.
