This week, managed services provider Datapipe made an important announcement about something they are doing with Amazon Web Services that reminded me of a Zen kōan. That’s a paradox intended to defy logic and to cultivate intuition, like the question, “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” Alas, the tech press beat seldom ascends the craggy path to satori and, so, the announcement did not receive much attention, despite its Amazon angle. I guess it was just too oblique to allow even the re...| By Roger Strukhoff | Article Rating: |

As the Fifth International Cloud Expo (TM) approaches, word has come that its producer, Cloud Expo, Inc., based in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, has received serial number 85009040 from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
Cloud Expo was announced on February 24, 2007, the day the term "cloud computing" was coined, according to its producers. "That same year, the first Cloud Expo took place in New York City with 450 delegates," the company reports.
Now, coming soon, April 19-21 at the Javits Center in New York, Cloud Expo, Inc. expects more than 5,000 delegates to accompany more than 100 exhibitors at what will be the largest Cloud Computing event ever produced.
Cloud Expo, Inc. Names Carmen Gonzalez President and CEO

Cloud Expo was also held in Prague last summer, and will return to that city June 21-22 of this year. In November, Cloud Expo returns to Santa Clara, CA, in the heart of Silicon Valley, where opening keynote proceedings had to be delayed a few minutes last year to accommodate an overflowing crowd.
Cloud Expo Hong Kong, Cloud Expo Tokyo, and other global events are also being registered by Cloud Expo, Inc.
Long may Cloud Expo reign!
Cloud Expo, Cloud Expo East, Cloud Expo West, Cloud Expo Europe, Cloud Expo Tokyo, Cloud Expo Prague, Cloud Expo Hong Kong, Cloud Expo Sao Paolo are trademarks and /or registered trademarks of Cloud Expo, Inc.

In the forthcoming book, called The Applications Handbook: A Guide to Mastering the Modern Application Lifecycle, the authors evaluate the role and impact of automation and management over an application's lifecycle, as well as delve into the need to gain better control over applications through a holistic governance perspective.
As enterprises move inexorably towards the Cloud, a faint murmur in the distance is growing louder and louder. What is it – the security forces objecting…the CFO wondering where their money is going now…business teams clamoring for faster response time? Good guesses, but this group never makes quite that much noise – it’s the operational teams scratching their heads wondering how, particularly given their existing set of challenges, they are going to keep their heads above water trying to manage...
Kapow’s “browser-based data integration” approach eliminates the need for IT to use APIs for data integration, saving time and money by avoiding manual coding costs. Kapow Katalyst automatically extracts, transforms, integrates and migrates data to and from any application and device.
Kapow Software (formerly Kapow Technologies) last week launched Kapow Katalyst 8.0, which promises rapid integration and delivery of data to any application and any device without a lot of heavy API lifting.

This holiday season, give your friendly neighborhood hacker (black or white hatted) a nice pat on the back. ‘Why?’ you may ask. ‘Aren’t they responsible for the nasty botnets, malware, SQL injections, stolen identities, government infiltration, Stuxnet, and all the malicious things you warn against in this very blog?’ Yes, but over the years it’s been the very same folks attempting to and successfully gaining access to systems to infect, steal, snoop and causing general havoc that have made s...
When Google Storage for Developer came out, it came out with an Amazon S3 compatible API. There are also other service providers do the same thing.
The logic was simple. If Amazon S3 is the leader, by providing an S3 compatible API, the cloud storage provider attracts existing S3 communities and existing S3 developers.
Initial thought, it is a good move. But wait a second…
“If I have Amazon S3, do I still need Google Storage?”, a customer asked us during a support call. The mind was drawing blank that moment, and after a few seconds, the answer was ‘no’ as it slipped off my tongue.
That could be a typical moment when you were asked a question that you never thought about before and had to answer it quick. After the call, we had all the time to answer the question – If I have Amazon S3, do I still need Google Storage?
Coming back to the context of the call, the c...
