Three-and-a-half years after being sent up the river, CA's former sales chief Stephen Richards, 45, is going to get sprung early. His seven-year sentence for his part in inflating CA's revenues by backdating sales contracts in the company's multibillion-dollar security fraud has been reduced to time served. A U.S. appeals court decided that the sentencing judge didn't give Richards enough claim for accepting responsibility for what happened. The New Zealander, whose lawyers only asked for a two-year reduction in his sentence, was supposed to be deported once he did his time and that still stands. He's supposed to rejoin his family in Australia, presuming Australia will have him. His old boss, former CEO Sanjay Kumar, on the other hand, is condemned to serve out his full 12-year sentence unless another appeal attempt succeeds, having failed to accept responsibility.
