The Only Enterprise IT Event in 2010
Covering the Entire Scope of the
Cloud Computing Spectrum |
| |
Cloud computing is steadily becoming an integral
part of the enterprise computing environment. |
|

Cloud Expo was announced on February 24, 2007, the day the term "cloud computing" was coined. That same year, the first Cloud Expo took place in New York City with 450 delegates. This coming November 2010, Cloud Expo is returning to Santa Clara with more than 5,000 delegates and over 100 sponsors and exhibitors.
"Cloud" has become synonymous with "computing" and "software" in two short years. Cloud Expo is the new PC Expo, Comdex, and InternetWorld of our decade. By 2012, more than 50,000 delegates per year will participate in Cloud Expo worldwide.
The cloud is certainly a compelling alternative to running all applications within a traditional corporate data center. But moving from theory into practice is where things get complicated, and this is where attending a top industry event like Cloud Expo comes in.
No one can take full advantage of cloud computing without first becoming familiar with the latest issues and trends, which is why the organizing principle of the 7th International Cloud Expo on November 1-4, 2010, is to ensure - through an intensive four-day schedule of keynotes, general and breakout sessions, and our bustling Expo Floor - that attending delegates leave the Santa Clara Convention Center with abundant resources, ideas and examples they can apply immediately to leveraging the Cloud, helping them to maximize performance, minimize cost and improve the scalability of their Enterprise IT endeavors.
Delegates will leave 7th Cloud Expo with dramatically increased understanding of the entire scope of the cloud computing spectrum, from storage to security.
The Santa Clara Convention Center is the only place to be November 1-4, 2010, if you build, sell or purchase applications or infrastructure delivered as a cloud service. End users, IT professionals and vendors alike are all encouraged to participate.
| Whether you're an enterprise or small to medium business, you'll soon be benefiting from the Cloud. Join your peers in Santa Clara November 1-4, and maximize those benefits already in 2010. See you in Santa Clara! |

Articles & Feature Stories By Elizabeth White Cloud computing is fundamentally about adding abstraction and then using that abstraction to simplify IT management and speed, and bringing new applications and business services online. If you think of virtualization as abstracting computer hardware, you can think of cloud computing as abstracting at the resource level. So with cloud computing you need to start thinking about capacity from a logical or architectural perspective, rather than in a way that's essentially an artifact of how the hardware had to be physically built.
But the underlying layers still matter. Indeed, they matter more than ever because they're expected to “just work” and to provide the high levels of scale, security, and quality of service expected of cloud computing environments. Oct. 26, 2010 03:33 PM EDT Reads: 434 | By Pat Romanski The success of services such as Salesforce.com and Microsoft Online has proven that selling SaaS can be a highly profitable model. However, as businesses continue to embrace the Cloud and SaaS, companies need advanced billing capabilities that enable the monetization of new business models – beyond simple subscriptions.
In his session at the 7th International Cloud Expo, Curt Raffi, Marketing Director for Metanga, the SaaS division of MetraTech, will show how to take advantage of "Dynamic Business Modeling" in order to monetize SaaS without compromise, whether it's a usage-based, pre-paid or loyalty-based model. Monetizing the cloud calls for a fresh look at billing. Attendees will learn how monetizing SaaS services requires a new approach to billing that's not constrained by traditional business processes or existing technology. Oct. 26, 2010 03:15 PM EDT Reads: 1,908 | By Pat Romanski SYS-CON Events announced today that Cloud.com, the leader in cloud computing infrastructure and management software, will exhibit at SYS-CON's 7th International Cloud Expo, which will take place on November 1–4, 2010, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Cloud.com delivers an innovative open source software platform for launching either public or private cloud environments – delivering all of the essential components used to build, deploy and manage multi-tier and multi-tenant cloud applications in a fully integrated software package. With the Cloud.com CloudStack, customers can quickly and easily build cloud services within their existing infrastructure and start realizing the benefits of this new IT service within minutes without the overhead of integration, professional services, and complex deployment schedules. Oct. 26, 2010 12:31 PM EDT Reads: 427 | By Maureen O'Gara Microsoft has agreed to fold dozens of separate licenses that the city of New York has with the company into one big license under an arrangement that will give the city’s 100,000 workers – 30,000 to start – access Microsoft’s cheap hosted e-mail, collaboration and other cloud services as they become available and pay based on use. Traditional desktop software and back-office servers are also in the mix.
Details are still being worked out and reportedly no contract’s been signed but Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a press conference Wednesday with Steve Ballmer that the city should save $50 million over five years. Oct. 26, 2010 12:00 PM EDT Reads: 628 | By Maureen O'Gara Amazon’s cloud business says that starting November 1 new – repeat new – customers, described as anyone from college kids to Fortune 500 developers, can run a free EC2 instance for a year, and leverage the free usage across Amazon’s other services like S3, Elastic Block Store, Elastic Load Balancing and AWS data transfer.
It says the move will let developers launch new applications, broaden their AWS smarts or gain hands-on familiarity with the services.
Maybe it’s as simple as getting more people cloud-bound on its widgetry or maybe it’s the competition or maybe it’s Amazon pushing the cloud like a drug dealer – get ’em hooked they stay hooked. Oct. 26, 2010 10:39 AM EDT Reads: 467 | By Maureen O'Gara Geez, what a killjoy. Last Friday SAP asked for and got a gag order that will make it impossible for any of the attorneys involved in Oracle's billion-dollar suit against SAP for massive theft of intellectual property from speaking to the press while the trial's going on.
The trial starts Monday, November 1, and Oracle has hired the famous headline-grabbing David Boies to represent it. And Boies is supposed to call ex-SAP CEO Léo Apotheker to the stand as a witness and Léo officially starts his new job as CEO of HP on Monday so Larry stands to get a twofer out of the spectacle.
SAP has already admitted culpability. The trial is supposed to put a price on it. Oracle's demanding upwards of a billion dollars. SAP only wants to pay tens of millions. Oct. 26, 2010 10:30 AM EDT Reads: 500 |

Reads: 18,340 By Fuat Kircaali I can't comprehend that any event producer anywhere in the world today would answer this question by picking any one of the five available options presented. "A leading tool?" What do you mean by "a leading tool?" What other tools would you possibly have in this day and age? This question, the survey itself and its participants belong to the last decade.
I personally don't use email anymore; I communicate through "Twitter."
We don't do press releases unless we have to; we tweet stories to our roughly 12,000 followers in 8 channels. The news gets amplified to hundreds of thousands instantly.
Even during Cloud Expo, we reach more people by Twitter than the announcements we make through loudspeakers in the convention centers.
I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."
In an age where I personally hail a cab at an airport through Twitter, I can't possibly comprehend which century bubble those people might be living in. Reads: 5,720 Further cementing its position as The Largest Cloud Computing Event in the World, the organizers of the 7th Cloud Expo, being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA, announced today that the event will also feature – on November 2nd, 2010 – a CloudCamp unconference.
CloudCamp @ Cloud Expo is aimed at anyone working with, or interested in working with, cloud technologies.
"With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place where we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions," said CloudCamp co-founder Dave Nielsen, who will personally be facilitating the process on site at the Jacob Javits. "At CloudCamp," Nielsen continued, "participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts in several open discussions, as we strive for the advancement of Cloud Computing." By Kevin Hartig Cloud computing is becoming one of the next industry buzz words. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc.
Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.
