Adobe said Wednesday that's it's not going to put any more money into
developing the Linux version of Flash Builder, once called Flex Builder,
because there's no money in it.
The move could be a harbinger of other companies re-evaluating their Linux
investments given the still nasty economic environment and the Linux
community's notorious proclivity for not being a revenue generator. Oracle,
for one, which sees software as a business it controls, recently pulled the
plug on OpenSolaris.
Anyway Adobe turned in a handsome quarter Tuesday but got slammed real bad
when it forecast lower sales this quarter than the Street was expecting.
Adobe said its position on Linux is limited to Flash Builder, its
Eclipse-based IDE for developing rich Internet applications (RIAs) and
cross-platform desktop applications for its Flash platform. Its AIR widgetry

At the tender age of 17 months my severely ill daughter Sofia, an American
citizen, was abducted by her mother on Monday, July 26, in Istanbul, Turkey,
and taken to Syria.
I was informed yesterday by Sofia's mother that she will not be coming back
to the United States nor will she allow Sofia to return home.
Sofia has been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that requires

Java developers might want to think about hoisting Terracotta on their
shoulders and marching around JavaOne this weekend.
The company thinks it's overcome the garbage collection-created impasse
preventing Java apps from using lots of memory just when lots of memory has
gotten terribly fashionable in modern servers. And the solution is a lot
cheaper and simpler than buying what amounts to a mainframe for Java from
Azul.
It'll be at JavaOne showing off the beta of its new BigMemory pure Java

I’m finishing the third(!) week of teaching Flex. The first half of June
I’ll spend doing some regular consulting work, and then another two weeks
of corporate training. The use of Flex technologies is picking up in the
corporate world, but hiring managers are clearly facing challenges caused by
the lack of qualified software developers on the market. Solution? Re-train
your own people.
Well, it’s not exactly a complete solution, because after a week of
training, a senior Java developer becomes a Flex rookie, but at least these
people are familiar with business.

Even during Cloud Expo, we reach more people by Twitter than the announcements we make through loudspeakers in the convention centers.
I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."
