New Media on Ulitzer Every staff meeting we hold, I open the meeting either with my "passion speech" or end it with the importance of passion and excitement toward one's job. The colleagues whom I've been working with for longer than 10 years must have listened to my 'broken record' speech hundreds of times. My heart goes out to them. When I was a student at Zurich University in Switzerland 25 years ago, I studied German that first year before I started taking my regular classes. During my first summer vacation in Switzerland, and partly because I did not speak the local language, the best summer job I could find was to replace a full-time factory worker at TERLINDEN Textilpflege AG (a carpet cleaning factory), outside Zurich. SYS-CON Projects All-Time High Revenue

At SYS-CON Media, we don't do "predictions" but rather "projections." I am browsing through my November 9, 2009 dated blog entry. When I say this, I am comparing the current insertion order activity to the same period last year. We will be closing 2009 roughly 32% below 2008 in revenues (far better than any other tech media company), which forced us to reduce our expe... (more)

Cloud Expo and The End of Tech Recession

http://twitter.com/fuatkircaali At SYS-CON Media we see our inventories are filling up to 100% capacity for the months of November, December, and January, and we are seeing better-than-normal RFP activity for the first quarter of 2010. We will be closing 2009 roughly 32% below 2008 in revenues (far better than any other tech media company), which forced us to reduce our expenses for the same period by around 40%. Last fall, while the world was falling apart, we were preparing for a ... (more)

Beautiful Weather This Weekend in South Florida and the Bahamas

We had beautiful weather this weekend in South Florida and the Bahamas. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday doing outdoor activities. I played 9 holes with my friend Roger Strukhoff before he left for Manila, Philippines. Roger and I visited the church on the island Sunday morning. There were only 12 neighbors on the entire island. I had fresh Wahoo for dinner Sunday night that my friend Tom and his wife caught that same day. I browsed through my in-box in the afternoon and replied to a few emails, including one from my friend Kevin, who forwarded me a quote from Yahoo finance f... (more)
