HUNTSVILLE, AL -- (Marketwire) -- 02/24/10 -- Synapse Wireless, member of UCA®International's OpenSG and leader in Internet-enabled, wireless energy solutions, today, announced that the Synapse SNAP network operating system earned a 2009 SmartGrid.TMCnet.com Product of the Year award from Technology Marketing Corporation and Intelligent Communications Partners.
"Synapse has proven they are committed to quality and excellence while addressing real needs in the marketplace," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "We're proud to honor their accomplishments in the advancement of smart grid technologies."
SNAP provides a modern network architecture through which devices on the Smart Grid can communicate. Importantly, an on-board Python interpreter adds intelligence to these devices so they can interact with the environment through sensors and remote control. Application scripts are easy to write and to wirelessly download into any device from anywhere in the world.
Since SNAP runs on low cost microprocessors and is fast to install and become operational, Smart Grid deployment can accelerate and give return on investments quickly in terms of both energy and environmental savings.
Because SNAP was designed with the Internet in mind, bridging applications into the rest of the world is done easily by remote procedure calls -- a standard that has long served the software industry with an efficient and reliable way to invoke functions on different processors. The evolution of Smart Grid will come in stages of learning and discovery, thus using such flexible techniques provide a way to upgrade and expand systems and avoid premature obsolescence or expensive retrofitting.
"Our SNAP network operating system continues to receive critical acclaim from both the marketplace and industry analysts," said Wade Patterson, Synapse CEO. "SNAP was designed to meet the challenge of Smart Grid applications by pushing intelligence out into devices. SNAP makes interoperable, wireless device communication easy, reliable, affordable and secure."
SNAP was awarded "Best of Show" at the Embedded Systems Conference in Silicon Valley, 2009. Synapse was named "Emerging Company of the Year for 2009" by Frost & Sullivan. And Tom Cantrell, West Coast Editor of Circuit Cellar Magazine, concluded in his recent, in-depth report that SNAP "works as advertised." Almost 800 registered SNAP users worldwide are creating applications for irrigation control, LED lighting, solar panel control, tank monitoring and other critical energy solutions.
