There has been a lot of discussion lately around the benefits of so called
"economies of scale" found in the cloud. This scale has been described as a
main driver for those choosing to use remote cloud computing services and
infrastructure rather then using your own. The discussion usually points to
the "fact" that these companies have greater economic scale that smaller
companies can't match. A scale that dictates that only the largest companies
can afford the capital expense required to the build out the massive global
data center footprints required to adequately compete as multi-faceted cloud

Conference News & Updates  5th International Cloud Expo will take place April 19-21, 2010, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. The three-day event will offer a rich array of sessions led by exceptional speakers about the business and technical value of cloud computing with more than 80 sponsors and exhibitors on the 70,000 sq. ft. show floor and over 5,000 estimated delegates from well over 48 different countries. Rackspace, a major cloud-computing provider, experienced a connectivity loss at its Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, data center for more than a half hour on the afternoon of Dec. 18. During that time, customers could not access business services at the data center. Among the first to notice the outage was cloud-based monitoring service, Monitis, which also monitors the performance of such providers as Amazon, Google and GoGrid on behalf of clients.
