Techtopical wrote: Steve Jobs is wrong, quality netbooks can be manufactured far lower than $500, Apple need to shave off some of their own profit taking. Today in 2009 cheap laptops from Acer, Dell, MSI etc can be purchased for under $280, with 160GB hard drives and impressive specs. Prices are trending downwards, and Apple should meet the needs of a recession hit public, and release a quality Mac netbook for around 300-400 dollars.
CEO Joe Tucci said for what must be the umpteenth time Tuesday that EMC has no intention of parting with its roughly 84% majority stake in virtualization leader VMware. The occasion was EMCâs first analyst day in a dogâs age. EMC has been under pretty constant market pressure since VMware IPOâd 20 months ago to divest its position on the theory that the two companies would be more valuable split up. Tucci, however, thinks "We will get more traction and more opportunities doing it the way we're doing it."

As the pressure mounts to meet more stringent budgets, CIOs need to find the proper balance between transforming IT and reducing costs. IT operational costs continue to increase as a percentage of overall IT dollars. At the same time, IT is being pressured to provide an innovative, competitive advantage for the business. Will the Enterprise Cloud support both? "Can the Enterprise Cloud make infrastructure operations faster, easier, cheaper, and safer while also unleashing the transformative creativity of the workforce?" asks Jill Tummler Singer, Deputy CIO of the Central Intelligence Agency, who will on October 6, 2009, be giving the opening keynote at SYS-CON's 1st Annual Government IT Conference & Expo.
In her keynote Singer will explore whether the Cloud will be both a strong efficiency play as well as the Infrastructureâs Ultimate Revenge by positioning IT to be the accelerator of corporate strategy instead of its bottleneck. She will discuss how Enterprise Cloud Computing naturally fits in an organization's overall technology strategic plan and "how you can convince your boss to love the Cloud."
