Shumbi (www.shumbi.com) has unveiled Shumbi Discover, an innovative search, aggregation, clustering, annotation and collaboration tool. CEO Justin Staines made the announcement.
“Shumbi Discover allows you to do extensive web searching, and then annotate and share those search results,” said Staines. “The software uses a number of multi-touch gestures, such as pinch, flick and multiple finger. It works on XP, Vista and Windows 7 and will soon be available on Mac OSX.”
Staines added that Shumbi Discover has also been sold under OEM license to Japanese pen tablet manufacturer Wacom. Under this agreement Wacom Europe GmbH (www.wacom.eu) will bundle their version of Shumbi Discover (branded Bamboo Explore) together with their new range of Bamboo tablets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa later this year. Bamboo second generation is the first interactive tablet that merges multi-touch functionality with Wacom’s advanced pen tablet technology in a single device.
Shumbi Discover is protected by multiple patents (GB0914723.2 and GB0914269.6) which embody underlying algorithms such as a multi-touch gesture algorithm and also the design implementation.
Shumbi Discover uses a .NET clustering engine which was created through a partnership with Carrot Search (www.carrot-search.com). Based on the Lingo open source Java clustering engine, Carrot will be releasing the build framework for the .NET version and making it publicly available for other developers to use.
Shumbi Discover will be available as a reduced functionality free version with full functionality for white label branded version for OEMs. There will be incentives within the free version, for users to upgrade to the full functionality OEM version, if they wish to do so.
