Personal Branding Journal

Many people confuse the responsibilities related with the term "Event Marketer" with the responsibilities of a "Promoter" but they are two very different things.

An event marketing professional uses strategy to develop a program; either by buying into a sponsorship of a large existing program (like the Olympics OR like the Vans Warped Tour) or to develop an event that meets the target demographic of the client. Promoting an event is a completely different skill set. One particular event marketer has been pulled into projects requiring her to act as a promoter of events. This blog details the practices and process of promoting an event.

With a 10+ year background in event marketing, and a fairly strong network of friends and colleagues, one event professional is promoting a fundraising event for a political candidate as a volunteer. This particular task has proven to be difficult due to various obstacles and this blog entry will describe the promotion process. The blog entry details the process in planning the event - timing & venue selection. The blog further details how to promote the event through social media, traditional media, email blasts, event listings and reaching out to personal networks.
