CHICAGO, IL and SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/07/09 -- U.S. Soccer, the governing body for all forms of soccer in the United States, and Digitaria, a leading digital marketing and technology firm, today announced the official launch of a completely revamped web site for U.S. soccer fans.
The new site has been completely redesigned to help U.S. Soccer provide more scalability and content. The revamped site is now powered by an entirely new digital platform that includes a new content management system, a new video delivery network, and integrated social media tools and applications to help fans share and engage. The new content management system will make it easy for staff members to update content by themselves without having to rely on IT resources.
As the national governing body for soccer in all its forms in the United States, U.S. Soccer operates the Men's and Women's National Teams, 12 Youth National Teams, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, National Coaching Schools and the National Referee Program. The launch of the new site comes less than a year before the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, which the U.S. Men's National Team is attempting to qualify for later this year. Held every four years, the World Cup is one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
From a content perspective, users will find expanded player profiles, team news and statistics, multimedia features and interactive applications. For example, a new MatchTracker will help fans get real-time updates on all U.S. National Team matches worldwide, including qualifying matches leading up to the FIFA World Cup (such as the Aug. 12 match between the U.S. and Mexico).
"We are excited to provide U.S. Soccer fans with a better online experience with the launch of our new site at ussoccer.com," said U.S. Soccer Senior Manager of Communications Neil Buethe. "Digitaria used the latest technology to help us build a more engaging and dynamic site that we feel will showcase our in-depth video, audio and written content our fans have come to expect, while also creating an ever greater connection to our national teams with our new online community."
The new digital platform will help U.S. Soccer provide a better and more robust experience for fans according to John Van Spyk, General Manager of Digitaria Sports, a division of Digitaria.
"The social media applications will provide the type of tools and interactivity that most fans expect from major sports properties," he said. "This includes the ability to create profiles, post photos, comment on stories and engage with each other."
About U.S. Soccer
Founded in 1913, U.S. Soccer has helped chart the course for soccer in the USA for more than 95 years as the governing body of the sport. In this time, the Federation's mission statement has been simple and clear: to make soccer, in all its forms, a pre-eminent sport in the United States and to continue the development of soccer at all recreational and competitive levels. To that end, the sport's growth in the past two decades has been nothing short of remarkable as U.S. Soccer's National Teams have continually succeeded on the world stage while also growing the game here in the United States with the support of its members.
