SAP is recommending SUSE as its preferred Linux platform, the stuff of which stacks are made, and Novell is going start being the first line of defense for people running SAP applications on SUSE.SAP's great rival, Oracle, of course is now peddling its own anti-Red Hat Linux.
Novell is supposed to handle both the apps and the operating system under a maintenance-and-support arrangement with SAP styled SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Priority Support.
The program is supposed to focus on optimizing the price/performance of mission-critical workloads and includes volume discounts for application configurations. And there's a special on for the next 90 days.
It is also supposed to be integrated through the SAP Solution Management application management solution into the SAP global support backbone for managing the entire lifecycle of SAP applications.
Novell and SAP are supposed to optimize SUSE for SAP applications platforms like NetWeaver and SAP Business Suite. SUSE was already an SAP development platform.
Meanwhile, Microsoft and SAP are blowing kisses at one another and promising to optimize SQL Server 2005 for SAP Business Suite in the name of making it easier for customers to transition to the database and hence to leverage an enterprise SOA.
Microsoft going to set up an optimization lab at SAP headquarters in Germany.
