Why Enterprise Architecture?

The rise of Enterprise Architecture (EA) should be no surprise to any of us, and yet every day businesses either opt out of deploying enterprise architecture, or can't deploy it effectively. While the Industrial Age was characterized by process-based advances such as assembly lines and schematics, the Information Age isn't characterized by the rigors of engineering that richly founded the manufacturing surge in the early 1900's. As a result, nearly 40% of existing enterprise architecture programs will be stopped by 2010 because of poor execution, according to analysts at Gartner.... (more)

Cloud Computing Expo: IBM Reportedly Pulls Offer for Sun

Sun's board rejected a formal IBM offer for the company Saturday as too low, according to the Wall Street Journal. Apparently the price IBM offered was $9.40 a share or less, down from a reported $9.55 late last week. IBM pulled its roughly $7 billion offer off the table on Sunday, according to the Journal, the AP and the New York Times, after Sun terminated IBM's exclusive bargaining righ... (more)

While IBM & Sun Dither, Rackable Buys SGI

Rackable Systems, the large-scale server wannabe, said Wednesday that it's buying the now bankrupt SGI for roughly $25 million in cash plus the assumption of certain liabilities. The once-great SGI closed at 41 cents a share Tuesday with a market cap of $4.78 million. iPhone Developer Summit (www.iphonedevsummit.com) today announced Ian Thain as the Tech Chair of the Conference. Overall, very exciting times, and a great event put together by the folks at SYS-CON! There was a lot of excitement and optimism throughout the event. As someone put it: cloud computing is about 700 days old. That means that there are a lot of arguments about definitions, and where things are going, and so on. And that also gives a lot of vibe and a lot of fresh community spirit.
