Binghamton Gunman Identified as Laid-off IBMer

Representative Maurice Hunchey, whose district includes Binghamton, told the AP that Voong lost his job at IBM

The gunman who went on a rampage in upstate New York Friday, killing 13 people, wounding four others, terrorizing still more, reportedly finally putting a bullet in his own head, has been identified as 41-year-old Jiverly Voong, who was recently laid off by IBM in Johnson City.

Voong, also known as Linh Phat Voong, reportedly barricaded the back door of an office of the American Civic Association in the center of Binghamton, New York with his car, entered through the front door toting two handguns and opened fire on a citizenship class.



Representative Maurice Hunchey, whose district includes Binghamton, told the AP that Voong lost his job at IBM.

The wounded are reportedly in critical condition.

During a televised press conference at 5:00pm authorities said they weren't ready to confirm the murderer's identity.
