Google Maps and ASP.NET

I am sure that most of you have heard about or have had a chance to use Google Maps. It's a great service and I was really impressed by the responsiveness of the application and the ease with which users could drag and zoom maps from a Web browser. It has in many ways heralded the arrival of AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), which I am sure will revitalize Web development in the da... (more)

While IBM & Sun Dither, Rackable Buys SGI

Rackable Systems, the large-scale server wannabe, said Wednesday that it's buying the now bankrupt SGI for roughly $25 million in cash plus the assumption of certain liabilities. The once-great SGI closed at 41 cents a share Tuesday with a market cap of $4.78 million. Rackable wasn't even conceived of when SGI had its heyday and it's at least spooky that the company founded in 1982 - the s... (more)

Intel launched its 45nm quad-core next-generation Nehalem Xeons Monday comparing them to the Pentium Pro of almost 15 years ago, the chip that put the company on the server map. Before the Pentium Pro, the first Intel chip optimized for server loads, Intel sold fewer than 750,000 processors a year into the server market. It now owns the joint. IDC figures eight million x86 servers are so... (more)

Overall, very exciting times, and a great event put together by the folks at SYS-CON! There was a lot of excitement and optimism throughout the event. As someone put it: cloud computing is about 700 days old. That means that there are a lot of arguments about definitions, and where things are going, and so on. And that also gives a lot of vibe and a lot of fresh community spirit.
