In his Keynote address at SYS-CON's 1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo, in San Jose, CA, entitled "A Head in the Cloud - The Power of Infrastructure as a Service" – the CTO of Amazon.com, Werner Vogels, discussed the many challenges when building a reliable, flexible architecture that can manage unpredictable behaviors of today's Internet business. "This applies to an enterprise trying to cut-costs, a young business unexpectedly saturated with customer demand, or a start-up looking to launch," he stressed.
The cloud is not the answer for every enterprise or every workload - though the economics do point out a major cloud advantage when it comes to short term or variable workloads.
