This book is a good starting point, May 30 2006
In one way I was a little dissapointed with this book. Not that this book was well not very well written, but that I was beyond the level of most the material. If you are looking into starting down the Linux networking path this book can help you do just that. It helps you learn the basics as well as everyday task. The one thing I regret is that I did not get it sooner when I was first learning. If you already have set up DNS, mail, and know some about IPTABLES you may want to look for a different book. I do plan to keep my copy to loan to others that are getting started. Overall this is a good book, but it is not for advanced users.

"Linux Network Administrator's Guide, Third Edition by Tony Bautts, Terry Dawson and Gregor N. Purdy is pretty much a tutorial on networking in general with emphasis on Linux as the catalyst. The book gently leads through TCP/IP and finishes with wireless environments. In-between are jewels such as OpenLDAP, FreeS/WAN, IMAP, SPAM filtering, OpenSSH, Bind and even IPv6 and focuses attention on Linux and MS Window’s struggle for hegemony."
--Robert Pritchett, MacCompanion, May 2005
