AJAX, Flash, Silverlight, or JavaFX: Must We Choose?
AJAX has forever altered user expectations regarding the experience delivered by the Web. In today's world, users sit at the edge of their seat waiting to see what scrumptious eye candy AJAX will serve them next. Some of the more notable visual effects and desktop-like interactions include Prototype-esque fades, Dojo style fisheyes, the near ubiquitous drag-and-drop, and, of course, who can live without the entertainment provided by the assortment of animated loading icons that now distract us while AJAX does its asynchronous 'thing.' Yes, it would appear that AJAX can do it all and that no desktop visual effect or gesture is safe from being outsourced to the Web.

AJAX and Rich Internet Application Developers Wanted
It's a great time to be an AJAX or Rich Internet Application developer. Backbase, which is growing quickly, is constantly on the lookout for talented people to join its team. At AJAXWorld 2007 East in March of this year, the company was looking for Senior AJAX Consultants in San Mateo and Amsterdam to deliver its consulting and training services. The same is true of many of the other sponsors and exhibitors at the upcoming AJAXWorld 2007 West, many of whom are looking to hire rich internet applications and AJAX developers.

Testing in Ruby on Rails
You've just finished writing your Ruby on Rails application, your test suite tests your models and controllers in depth, but you still can't tell from your tests if your RJS responses are functioning properly, or if a Javascript error is happening in the browser, which means that your tests can still be improved. In this talk, the speaker will outline some options you have for testing your AJAX-powered Ruby on Rails application from both the client and server sides. The speaker will show examples illustrating how to test your RJS calls from the server-side with the use of some Rails plugins, and how to test the same calls in the client-side using with Selenium, a tool that allows you to write automated web application UI tests using any mainstream JavaScript-enabled browser.
