To help with the migration to multi-core chips, Intel has open sourced its Threading Building Blocks (TBB) library of C++ templates under the old GPL 2 license with the runtime exception (notice - it's not using the newfangled GPL 3). TBB is supposed to simplify the development of application running in parallel, which of course is key to multi-core computing. The trick is apparently in expressing tasks rather than threads and avoiding low-level programming.
